I just bought one of those cheapie Remington 700 SPS Tacticals in .308 from P&D. The young fella at the store put a Swarovski 3x10 on it and I went to the range with some old ammo I cooked up in 2005 for another rifle.
Back then all my shooting was with an old milsurp. I didn't bother sorting brass (that was for anal - retentive bench resters), and I probably didn't trim them consistently either. Powder was whatever I had on hand in those days too.
The new gun fired the first group into a .75" group. No fouling shots, no barrel break in, no voodoo - that thing went to work the second it hit the range! I took 9 rounds to sight it in but could have done it in 3. (I fired three shot groups as a formality).
Holy crap! This rifle was LESS than $700.00! I wonder what this thing will do when I start carefully handloading for it? Can't wait to shoot it offhand... I know she's fat and heavy - but this baby is going hunting next year!
