Cabin fever - I am painting my Swiss Arms (Updated DEC 22, final product post 70)

That is right, because now it is priceless to him....priced less to others, but priceless to him. I can respect that! The whole point of owning stuff is that you can do whatever the fudge (CGN is getting embarrassing) you want to it.

As long as it isn't an animal, and everyone is a consenting adult. The fudge reference makes me uncomfortable.

Thanks brother. The picture does it no justice.

Remember, it isn't done. This photo is phase 2 of 3.

When I post the final product, the nay sayers will be eating their words.

Normally I think these kinds of paint jobs are pretty ugly, I had to open my mind a bit and really look it over and now that have thought about it a bit, it's not too bad at all, in fact, I think it's on par, if not better looking than those funky colored (professionally done) Swiss Arms rifles they put out last year (Autumn, heavy metal, forest or spring, or something or other), definitely not my cup of tea to be painting a Military Rifle, but very nicely done. I think it's great to see people willing to do what they want to do with there firearms, and doing a good job at it makes it even better:D

The only thing I really question with these firearm paint jobs (especially the spray on garage ones) is the durability, I mean, the way I treat my Rifles I don't think a spray on (or Armacoat for that matter) paint would last long at all, chances are it would be chipping and scratching a lot. I always wondered how much better some of the new painting techniques (the one's where they dip it in a huge paint bath) would perform in the durability area, but even the coating that SAN uses get's beat up on my Swiss rifles over time, and it's freakin tough as hell. I would be very curious to see how this rifle looked after a good week out in the bush. If the paint job can survive the abuse, then why the phuck not enjoy it like you want!

a product called goof off would return it to its original state without wrecking any of the plastic anyways. i have painted guns then used that product to strip it off with no ill effect, in fact i think painting helps protect the original finish so long as you dont prep the surface beforehand

Here is the final product:

Swiss Arms Green Classic
NEA Lower Receiver
Trijicon TA31F-RCO Optic

When I get my Black Special back from SAN (many here know the story) I am considering doing some "over the beach" type testing with one of them, maybe some mud puddle baths to see if I can cause it to fail, perhaps some dust and sand testing. If i do it, I will video it for sure and start a thread on it, and I am sure there are people who will call me a complete retard for doing those kind of things to a $3000 rifle, but it's mine right, I can do with it what I want. This is however, just a thought at this time, even though I have two of them, it would still really hurt to treat one that way.

Agreed 100%. I rough up my rifles.

I like when a gun has chips and inperfections. The best part about not being afraid to paint your gun brown, is not being afriad to paint it winter camo when the brown chips off.

I think you did a good job on it. Personally, if I had a Swiss, I don't think I could bring myself to lay paint on it (I usually reserve that for Norcs and hunting shotguns).

Also, cabin fever has caused strange and mysterious things to emanate from the minds of men. Rainbow and pink painted guns, for instance. I see that the cabin fever never went too deep into your mind, or at least, you have the absence of such lurking evil.

Yesterday I would have agreed with you. Today I just said f*#k it. Lets just do it.

Mrs smak_daddy nudged me. I'm glad she did.

It looks great, and looks like it gets used. I like to be able to toss my guns around, quad with them in the rain and the mud and just generally usem. To many expensive and pretty guns out there. If I scratch it so what, I didn't buy it look at or re-sell.

Glad you like the end result Smak_Daddy. It would take huge balls to paint that set up considering the amount of money tied up in it. Did you ever consider cerekote or one of the hydro camo patterns?
