Sweet Setup

First Post Here...

Hey Striker, nice setup.

How much heavier is this than the factory setup? I'm looking for the same characteristics. Red dot, battle proven, quick target acquisition for, and up to 100m. The only other consideration that I want to maintain, is light weight.

Where did you order your parts?

Ok she's finally done, time to post some pic's. Been looking for an optic which would meet my needs to finish project. Had to be a red dot or holo, battle proven, and capable of quick target acquisition but also pinpoint aiming up to 100 metre's. Found information on an Millet Zoom Dot made for use over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Was built to compete with aimpoint and eotech. Amazing reviews but Millet did not secure the contract for these sights overseas. Bushnel bought Millet and now makes this sight under the Bushnell brand. Love the sight as it dials from a 10 moa dot down to a 1 moa dot; best of both worlds in IMHO. Fibre optic sight and standard rear is easily visable under mount with a good cheek weld. No cheek weld for red dot but not needed for me as I like to have head up and both eyes open.

Anyway its done for fun and gun, or SHTF.

Well you will find nothing lighter than the original black resin front handguard. If you don't care about attaching flashlights, grips, etc. stick with it. The NEA rail is still very light and allows some configuration changes easily. Most of the added weight will be in the rail mount and optic. There are lighter optic's however, the battle proven are pretty expensive (Aimpoint Micro). If you want a small red dot that has excellent reviews and does not cost an arm and leg, look at the Bushnell TR-25 Red Dot.

I trade off a bit of extra weight for functionality I'm interested in. My best guess is this setup weighs about 3 pounds more than the original setup. I wanted this one quite a bit lighter than my CZ858 and it certainly is. I don't find this setup heavy but I could easily shave off some weight by mounting the optic on the front NEA rail, loose the grip/bipod and folder options. Great thing about these carbines is they change out to what ever setup you want with little effort.

Hope this helps,

And parts I generally shop around online, the EE here is also a great source for parts from fellow Nutz.

The trigger guard appears to be different on some of the guns and doesn't have the indent for the mag release. Does this indicate a particular model or just the parts that were on the bench when the rifle was assembled?

Here is mine. I just finished this three weeks ago. It was a fun project. Most of the parts and accessories came from zahal.org with some minor things from Wolverine Supplies. I got the aimpoint and sling from DS Tactical.

I like your setup, looks great. How does that rear cover hold zero after being taken off?

I haven't taken it to the range yet. I asked the guys at Zahal about the receiver cover rail and they said it was a popular item. I have to try it out myself to see how well it holds zero. There are two additional allen screws that hold the receiver cover to the receiver itself which should make it fairly secure though.

the guns were assembled from parts bins. most parts are 40+ years old. random mostly. another difference is the front sight post, open or closed top.
