rugger 10/22 auto bolt release

Omg they have a last shot hold for the bolt!!! I need that now=P
I was siriously debating drilling a hole in the back of my receiver too but im concerned about dirt and other unplesantness getting in there...how is it working out for you? Do you take your gun out in the woods or stick to the range?

You could always tap the hole for a plug screw if you're worried about it. But really why bother? Is a small hole on the back any worse for dirt entry than the huge ejection slot in the side of the reciever? I suspect not.....

If Ruger had made it so that the bolt lock and release wasn't such a fumbly device I suspect that far more of us would have simply left it alone. But as it comes the slide lock back and release is one of the more frustrating gizmos I've seen that was ever installed on anything mechanical. The whole thing about having to push and tilt front or back with the dexterity of a skilled safe cracker depending on locking or releasing is simply odd and poorly done. So I'm not at all surprised at the folks that do this mod to try to make things easier.

Anyone that shoots at a range where the guns need to be shown clear by locking back the bolt knows that this is a frequently used control. So why they made it so perplexing to use is beyond me.

faulty design for sure... but then again its almost the only serious flaw iv found with the gun so far so all in all im still quite happy with it.
what did you use to make your hole in the receiver? how did you get the measurements right? how did you avoid making a bunch of scratch marks on your gun while drilling it?
all things i could probably figure out myself over a little while but i dont want to unnecessarily damage my gun

There's a guy who makes a special tool to drill a cleaning hole .... it's about 25 bucks, and 10 bucks shipping.

anyone have one second hand they want to part with for cheaper? any way i can get this done myself for cheaper? i feel sort of stupid paying 35$ for a single hole...

It works just fine, and it is not an issue with dirt. The hole is hidden buy the stock anyways, and you would never know it was there until it's taken apart.

I take my gun out into the woods! ;)

Where do you live Marc?
I made a drill guide and you're welcome to borrow it.
I don't think it's worth shipping.

The drilled receiver hole is a great, however, you may want to invest in a boresnake and try that our for a bit. I had a dlask that had the hole, and I never used it. Mid grade ammo and lots of light cleaning goes along way. Don't go crazy! I have a 10/22 that went 50k on its round count, and never had more than a clean and swab on the barrel occasionally. Taking the bolt out for every cleaning is almost a little much.

ya? okay well i guess thats good to know :) this is the first gun i actually own so i want to take extra good care of it. all the others are my dads so i care just a little less about then... do u think a .270 win boresnake would fit/damage my .22?
