where to find a old sxs 20g?

It all depends on what you mean by a classic for less than $600.00. For example, the 20 gauge 311 I have is near mint with full case coloring , great bluing and wood finish. As far as I recall without looking at it, it has a very tiny chip in the buttplate. I would not sell it for less than the $400.00 mark if I was selling. I also have a very nice Ithaca Flues in 20 gauge from 1918 I think. I paid $390.00 a couple of years ago. I also bought an excellent condition 16 gauge Ithaca Wester Arms Long Range for $400.00. So yes, you can find these types of guns for under $600.00 if this is the type of American classic you want. If you want a Parker or LC Smith or AH Fox in 20 gauge you will be out of luck for your price range. Now if you want a Belgian or Spanish gun, then you open up a whole new arena in your price range. However, some of those can be not so good on the quality of the mechanics.

yes, that is what I am looking for exactly. I don't mind waiting but next grouse season would be nice to have a sxs. Right now I use a CIL single shot 20 gauge and I will keep for a backup. Thanks for all the info.

Be patient thud.
One will show up.
Did you put a WTB up in the EE?
And the folks ain't hurt'in yet.
Wait till the Visa bills start showing up after the
New Year.
Oh, and Happy New Year tu yu'all tew....... :)

IMO 28" barrels swing better than 26" barrels, but in a fixed choke gun longer barrels = tighter chokes, so for upland, with the gun in question you're looking at another $100 to open the chokes from M/F to IC/M.
No easy quest in your budget range to find what you want. I bought a used 1971 era AYA in 1995 for $750 if that gives you some perspective. The gun in question is close to as good as your going to do for a $500-$600 range American made, mechanically sound 20 gauge of relatively recent manufacture.
Single trigger's not a big disadvantage as few have the presence of mind to pick a barrel based on the distance of the flush, and just pull right barrel first anyways.
You can likely find a used "off brand" Spanish gun in your price range, but hard to judge the quality of such guns without having them in hand or having really good pics.
Get the gun you think will suit your wants, but be prepared to go though a few until you find the right one.

I bought a 311 20g here just before duck season for $250 shipped. Be it I was the 7th guy to look at the ad, after coming home off the night shift. Like anything else, right time at the right place

Say 7/10 on bluing. No cracks in either stock. Butt pad is good shape, Pachmayr. I bought my gf a Wingmaster, earlier in the yr, but wondered that it was too heavy for her to some what start out with.
311A if that matters. No idea on what the A means

Edit : Was surprised to find how hard 2 3/4" hunting loads were to find....then how much $$$ they were

Not sure what shells you are looking at. At WSS this fall I bought 2 3/4" steel for a little less than the 3". The #7 1/2 or #8's 1 1/8 oz target loads are the same price as the 12 gauge at around $64.99 per case. The 7 1/2 will work fine for any upland game around Manitoba.

Sorry, meant duck loads. All I could find there was Kent. Not paying that kind of $$ for my gf that's going to miss most of the time. Nothing at Cabela's and locally at MacDonalds. Did buy a flat of leads at MacDonalds for clays

Importing shotguns from the U.S is a fairly easy and not too costly process so look on ShotgunWorld.com.......there is usually lots for sale on there.

Have you imported one from the US lately? If a fellow is looking for a $500.00 shotgun, there is no way I would go through the trouble and expense for a shotgun in that value range.

Thanks for all the good info guys. I just said "I'll take it" to a Savage Fox Model B. A fellow member responded to my EE ad with a nice 3" chambered double trigger model. It has a serial number so it is post 1968 but luckly still has the double triggers I wanted. Thanks again.
