Wanting to try an AR build

So I'm just getting back into shooting (after a 20 year break), and would like a firearm that is distinctly mine. I figure building an AR from scratch is a good way to go about that.

I've been putzing around on here, and out in the web, for the past few hours, trying to piece together information. I know the lower has to be pulled in domestically, and everything else can be gathered anywhere else. However the sticky point ( and this may be ignorant, but this is why I ask) is:

Could I make a .308 AR that can be used as a precision rifle?
long barrel, scope, bipod....ect.
Seems most everything I can find with some digging, however the lower receiver is proving to be difficult.

Is this something I should just give up on, and settle for a .223? I'm a big guy, and like big firearms.... but I also don't want to spend $4000 on my first build.

Any information would be helpful, I have checked out all the sponsored links at the top of this site, with no joy.

What about this: h ttps://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1944&bc=no for the lower. Sorry if I'm reading your post wrong but I'm not sure what you're asking.

EDIT: lower, UPPER, CHARGING HANDLE, AND LPK

Nope, you have the gist of my quandary. I'm attempting to find a AR 308 lower ( stripped or not ) in Canada. I shall check out that link, thank you.

The last time I saw one of those was at target sports near Toronto, but that was years ago. I can't even remember who makes them now. You would most likely have to order one if you can still get them. A .308 might be a bit big for your needs anyway, what are you trying to do with it? A stock .223 is still pretty good up to 200 yards.

I'd like to have something that I can play with at 300M, and I'm most likely never going to get to play with a .50 cal rifle.... As I mentioned, I'm a big guy (6'9" 310lbs) I like my hammers heavy and my bullets large.

6'9"?! Buddy you can just throw the bullets!!!

This is going to be the summer of .50 cal with all the new product available to us, thanks to all the product that is coming in from the US. Just a question of money now...

.308 is expensive to run, compared to .223, seems a lot of guys give up on expensive calibres, maybe try a cheap norinco M14 and if you enjoy and want to stick to 7.62/.308 then sell it and upgrade. Just saying, seen plenty of guys sell .45's in favour of cheaper guns to run at ranges. All the best.

I don't know for the .308 but I've built one in .223 first built ever.
It still today my favorite rifle.
Every year, I make some coyote hunters feel bad at the range, when we take the 200M walk to pick up or targets.
Standard 5 rounds grouping at 200M
