Updated! CZ 858 AK Style Project Complete! Now Updated With Pics!

Chill out guys lol No need to argue on the net :D

I spoke to my brother, he said he can do $200 for a full set. He said he can make the grip a full inch longer than standard.

FYI he has no milling tools etc, they would be done by hand. Router, band saws hand tools etc. With very meticulous attention to detail just like these.

They would be unfinished so people could stain them as they see fit.

I asked him to make mine out of birch to be true to mother Russia lol He wants suggestions on what the best standard wood would be for people? He thought Maple?
Suggestions would be appreciated. Also suggestions as to changes that they would have preffered to see reference the set I posted pics of (mine.)

I will post detailed pics of the finished product on the rifle in about 5-6 days.

Also I don't want to get banned on here for advertising against the wishes of the Oberfuhrers. I'm trying to find a way to do this without pi**ing off the whole world here?

My brother is honoured that you guys like his work, he would be proud to have his work on peoples rifles all over the country.

Would it be safe to assume that this would be the general preference as for the rest of you?

The cost in material is negligable unless it's walnut or something more exotic. It's the man hours and labour that go into them that make the price tag.

True, the more exotic wood you use the more expensive it will be. Some strains and VERY hard and a pain to work with too. (chek de cok)????. Maple or Oak might be the best route. The more exotic wood you use and the more you offer the sets for the more people b!tch. Trust me I know.
Might I suggest making the "gas" port holes a little smaller so you see less of the barrel and top cover??!?!?!.
All in all tho great work to you guys.!!!!!!!!!
Actually makes me a little jealous, makes me wanna make another one myself.

Points taken Sir,

Thanks for the opinions! :)

I will pass this on. I think maple would probably be the best bet.

I'm going to buy another 858 just for this build. I've got one now all decked out in black plastic but I've always wanted one with real wood. I think I'm goint to go with the restricted 15.5" barrel version for this too.

Cheers,
Trevor

If ya get the message I am trying to convey about the port holes, pics may help better in my description:

$200 for a full set of AK wood??? LMAO I bet you would be willing to pay that especially when dealers are charging 175 for a factory (refinished) used sets that are not AK cut and have a factory butt. The furniture is not easy to make especially by hand...tell me how I know....Making these parts by hand requires skill and patience. I am often required to turn people away because I am too busy with my real job and I cannot keep up and offer the quality that I demand so I keep the numbers low. Once I usually tell the people the price they are either in or never message back which is fine by me. I'd rather that than wasting my time reading messages from people who want something for nothing or want to haggle a price on new. The set that was made here is awesome. There are a few things I see that I would not do but to each their own. Birch is much softer than maple and if you are doing lots of these the maker will need good sharp carbide bits or at least bits of good quality which are VERY expensive and not recouped in the cost. Oh ...I will go to Ironwood and get it cheaper....go ahead! Ironwood does not offer AK sets for the VZ nor will they custom cut one. If you want that you will have to mod it yourself using pieces made for the AK. To get the right angle on the butt using the factory butt bolt you will also need to take in the factor of where the head of the butt bolt is in relation to the comb on top of the butt. It sits so close that cracking or breakout will occur. if you do manage to get it to work the angle on the stock will probably be wrong and uncomfortable. For this reason I have gone to the extremes of making my own butt bolts longer than the original. I applaud anyone who goes through the trouble to make themselves a set and make the rifle truly their own. This is another great example of such work. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.

That looks amazing! The colour is exactly what I was hoping it would be!

Oh you like mine eh, thanks!!!!!!

Here is the finished family, not quite finished have some other plans in mind but very happy so far

Travis, if you see about the port holes and the angles of the stock are really the hardest things to figure out on these sets. Trial and error is a big factor

How many times have we seen these same pics hijacking someone's thread? You take any opportunity to show the same stuff over and over again and it smacks of desperation for attention. I mean you posted that same pic today in another thread in this same forum less than an hour later.

Sometimes I would agree with you, I hate "picture whoring", however in both of these cases, they were called for. The link you provide is to a thread called "Lets see some pics of your tacticool vz 58's...etc.", kinda hard to see it if he doesn't post it, and here he has posted it to show the OP what he was talking about about a concern/helpful criticism. You were the one who came in with useless information and hijacking the overall conversation thus making me derail it more that is until I do this!:

OP: I to share the same thoughts as Bfiles, if those "holes" could be made more AK-47 size I would be in for a set.

LOL its funny how a pic sets off jealousy to some people!!!!!
While yes I do love showing off my set, this was done for a reason for the OP to get a little better ideas on how some of the stuff is done.
In your case you just love to troll and not put any real help or knowledge in to your posts. Bitter over not being able to get a set from us, maybe. I personally dont give a ratsass.

Thx!!!

Thanks, you just validated my point by playing the jealousy card. My safe's got stuff that would make others drool but my self esteem is high enough that I don't need to show it off constantly, seeking validation from random internet anons. I guess I should be more tolerant and sympathetic, sometimes that's all people have I guess! Carry on, friend. :)

Even though I'm not an owner of a CZ, this started off as a really interesting thread. People posting good info on their projects, pictures, knowledgeable/helpful advice, but there's always a few that spoil it along the way...Back off and just appreciate what other fellow gun owners/enthusiasts are doing.
