I got a CZ 858 yesterday and I'm going to be taking it out tomorrow, I just have a few questions. It was pretty oiled up, I cleaned away most of the excess oil, I gave the bore a good cleaning, and I de-greased the piston and piston tube. I'm just woundering if there is anything else that I should do before shooting it?
And is steel case ammunition safe to use? What about corrosive?

LOL, you are all set. Yes corrosive is just fine to use just make sure to clean it relatively soon after you get back from shooting. Steel cased ammo is all the military really uses and they seem contempt with it.

She is a beauty and you will love it. Great purchase.

After shooting my CZ I cleaned the barrel/weapon with WINDEX. Yes WINDEX. I pretty much pour the solution down the barrel after shooting and let it sit for a few minutes and then give it a good thorough cleaning afterwards with frog lube or whatever the "flavour of the month is."

The windex suggestion was passed on to me from another CGN member. It pretty much neutralizes the corrosive properties from the ammo/primers. Happy shooting :)

CONGRATS! i have only used steel cased in my cz with no issues. i have used plenty of corrosive and cleaned it thoroughly within 2-3 days using wipe-out foaming bore cleaner and G96 on other parts over 1k rounds and no rust!

Thanks guys, I'll try some of the corrosive tomorrow. I've been using the hot water method with my SKS and it seems to be working for me, I'll probably stick with that for the CZ.

+1 on the boiling water thats all i do on my sks and it works great dries in a minute im not sure how you guys clean your guns but im usually in about an hour to strip mine down and clean every nook

You'll probably need to adjust the front sight, a lot of them out of the box shoot a bit too high and then just watch for that trigger pin as mentioned above, I have fixed mine by installing a shim. It's funny, this trigger gremlin was created by converting the trigger mechanism to semi-auto only. If we could enjoy the select fire as per original, this problem wouldn't exist.
Congrats to your new toy and have fun

make sure you scrub the chamber (not excessive) but scrub it after shooting, or else the chamber will stick to the cases and the extractor will rip the rim off, leaving the spent cartridge in the chamber

it's because of the laquer in the steel ammo, and the non- chromed chamber. The restricted military barreled version does not have this problem so much

If you must do anything, yes,,, enjoy yourself and bring a friend.
Seriously.

Over time mods and parts will come along, have fun for now and learn what fun a 858 can be.

I believe it is the largest visible information on the webpage link I provided...

ROFL!!!!!!

Just got mine yesterday too! heheh amazing rifle. I wasnt expected it to be so light and easy to handle.

Can't wait to get it out of the range.

I'd go for the boiling water also. Just get the parts burning hot (wear gloves). The hot metal will evaporate the residue water quick. Then wipe, degrease and oil.

Best advice I ever received for my CZ-858 was: "Buy ammo. Buy it cheep, and stack it deep." No need for any of the tacticool junk, just get ammo and shoot it lots. Once you have done that, buy the tacticool junk. Like I did! ;D
