Shot dog, thought it was a wolf

live on a farm , want your dog to live , don't let it roam , KEEP it on a leash it is that simple. or

On a side note, a relative of mine had a goat, he was concerned someone would shoot it during deer hunting season , so he attached a hunters orange scarf to it , goat lived tell it died of natural causes.

yup, my male rottweiller wears hunter orange too as he comes on a lot of hunts with us.... the dog likes hunting more than dog cookies

Keep farm dogs on a leash? That's funny.

If your so self absorbed that you shoot someones pet because you think it will ruin your hunt i think you need to get your priorities straightened out. Its that kind of disregard for everyone else that antis feed on. Just keep your rifle ready in-case Mr Bucky decides to circle back on the dog

For god sake man it's a farm not the Zoo.Dogs have trouble working the sheep/cattle while being tied. The sheep just laugh at the poor dog,Think of the dogs self esteem man.Laugh2

What about a hunting dog.....and you (the owner) are in the bush 50 yards behind it. Perfectly legal. What will be the lame excuse for shooting it then?

Only an idiot would shoot a dog like that. A Lab retriever was shot by coyote hunters here last year. If you can't id an animal don't shoot. If you shoot a dog thinking its a coyote then you deserve to be charged, fined and ridiculed. I have three hunting dogs that can be a couple hundred meters away from me.

Did you read the comments about him repeatedly taking potshots at landowners dogs on their property?

The guy is a nutjob, and people should not be standing up for him. He is an embarrassment and liability to the hunting and shooting communities.

Smokies Internet Gavel has FALLEN!!! :dancingbanana:

The idea of putting hunter orange on your dog if it roams free is a great idea...would be pretty hard to mistake for a coyote or wolf.

My dog wears his blaze orange collar all the time. Its the only collar we have. I tried using the vest on him but I kept forgetting it at home, and he got it filthy going through the bush. The collar is great, he is always wearing it, and it stays relatively clean.

An akbash looks like a big white retriever. There is no way to mistake it for a white wolf other than poor eyesight. If you can't tell the difference between a domesticated non-spitz breed dog and a wolf you need to quit hunting. It's like shooting a cow and saying you thought it was an elk.

Well apparently there is one guy in Northern BC who could not tell an ATV (bright red in color) with two persons riding/operating it from a buffalo...
There is no excuse for either...

It's not unusual for farmers to shoot the neighbors dog if they come into their yard causing mischief or harass the cattle in the pasture. One of those unwritten rules.

I grew up on a farm and neither we nor our neighbors would kill a dog for a "first offense" unless it was killing or injuring livestock. If a neighbor's dog ended up in our yard it resulted in a phone call and a cup of coffee if there was no problem and a longer talk and coffee if there was an irritation factor.

not really , leash might be the wrong word but chained up is definitely what should happen.

end of the day if you want ensure that your dog will live a long life don't let it roam.

Farm dogs are suppose to roam....Anyone shooting them is an idiot!
