There are no alternatives to the AR15

This is a 5.56 / 223 semi-auto analysis.
I love what can be done with M14...
Head over heels in love with the rifle.
I just wish I owned one :(

Let me point out that in extreme cold conditions your AR is far more likely to have stoppages than my M14 given the same maintenance schedule. And it costs $400. Add a Blackfeather rifle stock and you can be swapping "uppers" on the M14 for less than half the cost of an AR10 and achieving sub-MOA on this very reliable, battle-proven platform. Did you leave the M14 out of your study? If so, I humbly submit my addition for your review.

I understand that the price of some of those other rifles you mentioned may turn some people off, but to say that the sellers of those rifles are "gouging" is laughable.

Yeah gouging might not have been fair.
Even in the USA they are expensive...
I know that R&D is expensive and without military contracts it comes down to supply and demand.

Still, is it worth owning one XCR, ACR or Tavor for the equivalency of two rack grade AR15's?
Geexe for $2700 I could own a really nice AR15, buy all the mags I need, tac vest and still have enough money for 1500 rounds of ammo.

And yet if I had opted for the XCR, ACR, etc... when it comes to the accuracy & reliability department I wouldn't be any better off.

Considering my earlier post...I will concede the following:

I agree. AR is the best thing out there. I'd even say it is far superior to the other rifles you mention. Nice Elcan btw, I picked up one for myself a few weeks back.

Thanks
I love it too

It's an older oS4X fixed but it holds zero like no other optics I've ever tried.
I've taken it off at least ten times now and I never lost my zero.
I'm a believer - certainly over the C79....
The ARMS mount torque cams are VERY consistent.
I remember needing to scribe the tension nobs on my old C79 so I knew what tension my zero was at.......

The only complaint I have with the AR is purely political. Your average range in Canada is 100m or 200m at best. That does not do it for me, if I want to play out to 500m with any degree of freedom with a comparable rifle, I need one of these. If AR's were free to roam I would own more than one, an A2 is a great rifle.

This I totally agree with.....

Certainly can't argue with that.
And your SIG is a work of art...
At least you get what you pay for in this example.....

That is why i paid the extra bit for the XCR, to be able to actually take it out and have fun with it. Shooting a restricted weapon at the range just about takes all the fun out of it. Same with all the other rules that go along with them. :( if not i would have picked one for sure.

Fair enough on the first point.

Is it worth having an XCR/ACR/Tavor over two rack grade AR's? That depends on what your priorities are. All of those guns (especially the Tavor) offer novel features that the AR does not have, and their NR classification helps too.

It is also noteworthy that the highly competitive U.S. AR-15 market does help keep the prices as low as possible on AR's, especially when you have large contractors making components for multiple manufacturers and military sales.

I agree that you could have a really nice AR for $2700, but look at the quality of something like the Swiss Arms and compare it to an equivalently priced AR and a rack grade AR. The high end AR (such as a KAC, H&K, etc.) is comparable in quality and workmanship to the Swiss Arms, and the rack grade AR is left in the dust (not that it's a poorly built gun). So it really depends what you want... In a bang for your buck sense, I agree that a mid priced AR such as a Stag or S&W is hard to beat, but something like the Swiss Arms is playing a different game.

YOU WANT ONE!!!!!!!!
COME ON ADMIT IT COMRADE COMMISAR
In all fairness I never met a rifle I didn't like - except maybe a Eatons Carcano that scared the crap out of me...

Yes it is worth it!

vz58s are the best, hands down, you AR guys need a spanking, just stick to 22's if you're going to shoot 556 ;)

flame suit AND party suit on...

he he no flame here...
I was trying to confine this to 5.56 / 223 platforms.

I'm with you on the 7.62X39 VZ.58 / 858 series...
Awesome rifles for the money.........

I have many of the above mentioned rifles.

The one and only rifle that ranks on my field with a quality AR-15 is the Swiss Classic Green.

These two rifles would be my only choices for .223 rifles if I could never own another.

.30 Caliber is another ballgame however...
