(READ for SPEED updated) How long does a Restricted Transfer take in BC Currently?

Any tips for me? I am waiting on a PAL/RPAL and I have no need for an ATT yet. Only got an RPAL because I heard it was cheaper to do it all at once and "faster". I am in B.C and their number never works. I hear that I should call regarding an ATT and just get transferred to Alberta but I don't need an ATT. Regardless I am going to try it whenever I have a chance.

Once you get the license issued, just call the firearms office -- more then likely, you'll ask for BC and end up with alberta anyway. Just get the info in to them beforehand so you're not stuck waiting when you decide to go forward and get a pistol or a restricted rifle.

You'll need to be a member of a range in order to get the ltatt, good news is most range memberships are from Jan 1 to Dec 31st. So get the membership, then call. They'll get you to send in a copy of your range membership via email (I just took a photo and emailed that) they can also just email you your ltatt when it's done. In all, its not that painful, but just like everything government related there are weird delays for no reason.

faxed in a copy of my range membership for a LTATT on dec.21 and recieved it by mail today , so 10 days over the holiday is pretty good.

still waiting on my transfer though been 2 weeks so far and they said it could take up to 6.

Yep, LTATT's don't seem to be taking too long but holy crap the transfer time is frustrating!

Well I called the BC CFO today, the first time was mid afternoon and after 10 minutes on hold I hung up. I called back just after 4pm and got through right away, it was a nice lady at the CFC in Miramichi, even though I dialed the BC CFO extension, they're still helping with the backlog.

The bad news for those fellow BC'ers who are waiting impatiently to bring their restricteds home...they are currently processing transfers received on December 5th :(

The good news is that when I asked about the expected wait time for a STATT to bring my gun home from the store she told me to call and they could email it to me within minutes. :)

Unfortunately I am now really begrudging the snafus at the shops where I bought my pistols, both of them dropped the ball and didn't submit the paperwork until 6 days after I purchased. The first one should have been submitted December 7th :p

Oh well, I'll call back later next week and see how they're doing then. Looks like I won't be doing any shooting until February at this rate.:(

I'm in the same boat. Called in to complete a transfer done Dec 7th. 4 weeks now and nothing. I can never get in direct contact and all I'm ever told when rebounded to a different office is that it's 4-6 weeks for BC approvals to be done. Unacceptable??? But at the end of the day who would you complain to? Who's going to fix it?

Right -- It seems like they can just screw us around all they want. i was told by one agent that the reason for the slowdown is now that hunting season is over, hunters are buying more guns.

GAH. ok so, before hunting season: it was because all the new hunters where buying guns, during hunting season it was because it was hunting season!. Now that hunting season is over, its because hunting season is over.

but -- we're talking about restricted transfer's here, so all that is moot anyway. I'd point out their flaw in that whole conversation, but at the same time, you have to walk on egg shells with them. It's mental.

The whole thing sucks and now I'm starting to understand why long term gun owners/dealers dislike the BC CFO so much, I'm quickly becoming one of the club!
I would like to know why there is such wild inconsistency...
We keep getting told 3 to 6 weeks for a transfer yet my husband bought a pair of Ruger Vaqueros on November 26th, the store submitted the paperwork that day and the CFC sent all processed/completed paperwork back to the store on December 3rd, so just 8 days total. So why are some so fast and others so slow?? And I'm positive it's not just because it was a business to personal transfer otherwise mine from December 21st should have been done by now. WTH??

your lucky

I applied for my ATT via fax June 5th

I purchased a restricted off the EE on 24th June, the seller made the transfer on the 25th, I followed up on the 27th.

I received both LTATT and STATT to pick up the gun on the 13th of July.

It took 38 calendar days to get my ATT.

It took 18 calendar days to get my STATT after transfer.

It took a total of 91 calendar days from the time Miramichi received my application for RPAL to the time I could pick up my restricted.

My second restricted took 6 calendar days total ordered from TradeEx in Montreal. I received my gun and my registration papers the same day.

I just ordered another restricted on the 27th of August. I have not heard from the vender yet, but did receive confirmation of the order the same day.

Just a few milestones to add to the statistics.

Still awaiting my rpal.Application Oct 5/12.It's going to be summer until i have the guns i have already purchased in my hands. This process sucks

The length of time the process takes definitely sucks. But seriously you should have had your license ages ago if they received it October 5th, have you called to find out what's wrong?

Well good news fellow BC'ers, it would seem transfers are speeding up a bit. As I posted earlier, I called Friday January 4th and was told they were processing transfers received on December 5th, so I figured it was going to be another week or more before they got to the one of mine that was submitted December 13th.
Lo and behold Wanstall's called me today and the transfer has been completed and my CZ is being shipped. So it's been about 3 1/2 weeks or 14 business days, not great but not as bad as I was told it could be. Now I'm waiting on the transfer of my S&W M&P 22 pistol submitted December 21st, sometime next week maybe?
I am one excited new gun owner!!

hate you!

edit: I ordered a bunch of extra stuff for my AR, BIUS/AFG railcovers etc.. different charging handle etc.. I have _all_ of that stuff already, canpar is bringing my order of 1600 .223 rounds tomorrow. Still no approval for the actual gun!

Oh man Zeer, I'm sorry! It should be anytime now!
That's one of the truly frustrating things, the inconsistency. The husbands transfer, business to personal, 5 business days, my personal to personal (the CZ was a consignment) 14 business days, my dealer to personal 11 business days and counting. So much for business transfers getting priority like I've heard. There just doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason...
If you want my timeline so you can call and use it against them, let me know!
Here's hoping you get a call tomorrow...

Mine will be 5 weeks on Friday. Brutal

Totally brutal! Have you called and gotten anywhere in trying to find out what the holdup is? Seriously you should quote our timelines and ask what the problem is! Wholesale Sports Nanaimo-submitted transfer November 26th, completed December 3rd and sent back to the store. Wanstalls, Vancouver-consignment gun, submitted December 13th, completed and received by the store January 7th. NOT lying!!

Mine shipped -- I didnt recieve a call, but I did get a ship notice from frontier! In summary: Yay!

Congratulations! Now you're waiting for the mail like me!

At least now I can use the tracking feature. lol, maybe I'll call up canada post -- "How come my AR has been in SASKATOON for 2 days?!- no.. A as in alpha, R as in Romeo -- yes, like the gun -- hello? hello? HELLO?' ok, maybe I wont call them.
but, at least now I know for sure its on the way!

CP tracking is pretty good, mine even had an expected date of delivery which was awesome! Yep, now you can just watch it make it's way across the country! I watched the tracking on a bunch of sparkplugs we sent by DHL to a friend in Cuba one time, it was hilarious, Vancouver for 2 days-Toronto-Nottingham UK-Barcelona Spain-Havana Cuba. Seriously?! Now I know why the freakin' courier was so expensive!
