So I literally have just got into reloading. Mainly because I picked up a S&W 500 and factory ammo is really expensive to shoot.

Last night I made up 50 rounds for my new revolver. Starline brass, Berry's 350 grn bullets, Hodgden H110 powder, CCI primers. 40.5 grn powder was used.

So I loaded up all 50 rnds in. Adjusted the dies by everything I had read in books and seen in videos when after I was all said and done I slapped myself in the head as I had realized I had crimped past the cannelure on the bullet. OAL is at 1.995".

Have I seriously messed up by not crimping on the cannelure? Will this seriously affect the round when I go to shoot it? Is it dangerous to shoot the round in this condition?

Thanx in advance for any help. Last night was my first go at it but I must say I really enjoy reloading and look forward to doing it again.

Don't know the details of the load but it will be fine if you are seated long.

If you've seated too short I might be a bit more concerned depending on how short and how hot a load it is. The groove may or may not line up with the recommended minimum length.

Thanx everyone for the info. I will be trying a few out when my S&W 500 arrives on Wednesday. I cant see it being too much of a problem as i have good depth on the seating, its above the mininum over all length and theres a decent crimp. I also loaded 50 more crimped on the cannelure to give a go too.

Can't wait to try out my new hand cannon :D

i too just got a S&W 500 and loaded up a bunch of rounds with several powders (5 different types).

h110 is my favorite so far, for mag loads anyhow. your load of 40.5 will be plenty fine, did you use large pistol or rifle?

New starline brass that uses the Large Rifle Magnum primers.

This was my first go at reloading. Probably not my best choice as far as calibre's go for first time reloading but it is the only reason that made me start. Now I'm hooked.

i started with 45 acp, then moved to 9mm, 38/357, and now the 500. i cast for everything as well as using plated/ jacketed. with casting i can reload the 500 for .20-.25 cents a shot, pending how much i pay for lead. i've been on a good streak so far, just not a whole lot of lead.

To reload my brass it's costing me about .40$ a shot i figure with the plated stuff I'm using. Add .65$ each for new brass for initial start up. Still a butt load less than buying factory stuff.

Oh and my new to me Hand Cannon showed up today. I love the look of the full underlug with fixed compensator.

Let us know those those plated bullets work out. Nice to see they are thick plated. Watch out for setback if not crimped. Dont want to create excess pressure with magnum loads.

Budget Shooter Supply. Banner at the top of the page. Henry is an awesome buy. Quick and easy. Picked up my bullets and brass from him. He's an online only store but is cool with pickup.

Cast your own! here is one of the molds i ordered for mine, http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?107369-502-600gr-HP-FP-cramer-mold&p=1985057&viewfull=1#post1985057

600 grain bullet, 700 would have been nice, but there was no group buy for it :(

here is mine with several loads done up, but i was silly and shot them out of order and didn't really learn anything... well i did learn trail boss produces almost no recoil and stinks of ammonia. (the cast boolits are Lee 440 grain)

my current powders for testing are H110, trail boss, IMR 4227, H4198. when i can find them i will also try IMR 4759, lil gun, and 2400.

It has been noted by other 500 owners that accuracy seems to suffer with high bullet weight like 600-700 grn. Do you believe this is true?

i will let you know in a couple weeks once i get the mold and cast some up and test. right now i'm still flinching like a mother :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug:er lol. the trail boss loads (400 and 500 grain bullets, number 1 and 2 respectively in the picture above) were well within a loonie at 5 yards. but i'm still getting used to the gun and i'm not the best of shot either.
