Hey guys. Newbie question here, has anyone ever compiled a list of all firearms that are antique status in Canada? Just starting to get into antiques and would like an idea of what is available.

LOL yup, smells like it! But then again we were all new at one time or another.
To answer your question look at the stickies in the forum they will help you determine antique status.
As for a list availiable to the average joe? Not that I am aware of.

Really would have figured, that somone would have compiled a list for public use. I understand that there must be one for LEO use. It sure would make applying the rcmp decription of an antique easier. I would like to know what is available in pistol form that I can shoot on my own hunt camp property up north. Btw no troll thanks.

You would have to understand that most around here would view such a list as a shopping list for any anti gun organization to show off as "big evil must be banned". There are threads that guide the definition of antique to the point of being easy such as;

The antique status flow chart

Also although most around here are helpful to newbs getting into the hobby they also do expect some research and learning on your behalf. This assures that you will learn about your chosen antique and learn the tolerances better and be less likely to injure yourself. The tendency when people are spoon fed is to go out without full comprehension of the antique, and what it can and can't handle.

My advice; take Cyclone up on his offer. It doesn't get better than that, he's a helpful and knowledgeable guy who's also close to you.

personally I did not answer because such a list would be long and nit picky in the sense that there are caliber qualifications that make a pre 1898 model modern in the eyes of the law. As above, know the definition and be able to decide whether any given gun is old or new based on your own knowledge

MorserKarl, status as antique or prohibited can (and does) come down to the serial number stamped on the firearm. The serial number being used as a basis for whether the firearm was manufactired in 1897 or 1898, the firearms being exactly the same in every other detail. Idiocy of monumental proportions!

A list of guns that fall under the status of Antique is actually not a bad idea, but it does simply give a list to people who want to say "look at all these handguns that don't require a licence!!!" Wendy herself did this on the news once by showing a bunch of antique revolvers that didn't require a licence in an attemp to gain support against them.

in a sense we already do have a list .... anything pre 1898 with a list of cartridges from that goverment of cartridges that can't be a antique .

like other here , i feel the second we create a data base of antiques , we also create a data base of "nonfirearms" that some groups of people will try to ban next . why make it easy for them .
