S&W 629 4.2'' .44magnum

Yeah I didn't know what was going on with these things... there can't be many; more than 10, less than 50?
Anyway, I decided to move as I didn't want to miss out either. I jumped onto the EllwoodEpps boat. Good thing too as there are only 3 left as of this writing.
The ugly grip is a turn off, but it will be the first thing swapped out.
I can hardly wait.
I already ordered some hogue conversion grips for mine. Those smith grips are loose and
ty.I believe ya brother, just didnt think it would be that fast, lucky you wish i was in Edmonton, mine will be shipped next week, gun looks like a bulldog for sure.

I'm looking for some Ahrends Tactical Smooths similar to this (but round butt, this is the squared) and a different hardwood:
Their Retro BANANA smooth grips are also quite nice:
A lot of people are complaining about the grips that S&W is shipping their guns with; they work but are cheap and poor fitting being the the general consensus.
Most people change grips anyway on revolvers to something personal. It's the revolver thing to do.
The best revolver grips I ever shot from factory are the old-Ruger GP100 grips. Love 'em.
My hands are a Large-Medium or Small-Large if that makes sense (basically I usually buy medium sized-gloves and they stretch to perfect fit, whereas Large gloves are always a little loose.)
Anyway, from my research the Ahrends Tactical's are the closest thing to that old GP100 grip in terms of size which I felt were the perfect grip, for me.
Ahrends doesn't ship to Canada so I am in the process of sorting that out.
Ultimately like anyone who ordered one and is still waiting... I JUST WANT IT TO ARRIVE!!!

If I wasn't so hard pressed for a full lug .44, I'd be all over this.

I'll predict that we'll not see anymore of these after this batch, for 2013 anyway.
I called several shops in different provinces (aside from P&D, Ellwood and one in Quebec) and none were expecting any 4.2" models this year. That was enough for me to jump in now.

I don't think that will be a problem. These will start to trickle in soon.
I ordered them right off the hogue website. They have some nice wood grips too.

Agreed, nothing is ###ier they wood, hogue has some ###y wood grips as well. However, im gonna shoot this baby and i want to see how it feels with some nice hogue rubber grips first, before i spent money on the wood grips.

These are hogues i got for one of my 686's i used to have.
These are the rubber ones i ordered from hogue, well they look like those below. Those came on those guns when purchased from S&W.

Went out today with the .44 it shot well. I was using cheap pmc bronze ammo and it was hitting to the left a bit but after sight adjustment and getting use to it. I also made the trigger lighter which it made better to shoot. I was getting about 3" groups. Very impressed with the pistol. But it does need a better grip. Not too impresses with the stock one. Once I get some hand loads done it will likely shoot better.
Yeah i saw that. Fontier has one in stock as well. Shooters choice and one other place list them as "soon to arrive", so it sounds like they arent one off's and lots are on route. Which makes sense, because North Silva has said S&W were making a 4.2" for a while now. Can't wait for the pics and range reports to start showing up.

Well. It sure is tempting JohnTo. I do love my Ruger, but the trigger isnt what I am used to. It's a great trigger, and I have done some good work to smooth it out and lighten it up, but it's still not what I am used to. The down side to the S&W is the stupid internal lock, it looks so bad aesthetically (to me anyway). I won't buy one until I have shot one, so I will have to have a friend with one. If I fall in love with it I will just have to have both!
I don't think I would ever sell the Ruger, because it is so beautiful and shoots amazing. That being said, I do love my S&W's, and this would look good with my other Smiths in the stable.
