.300 Blackout enthusiasts may be interested in this...

The only thing that would make the blackout better would be if our stupid government would let us have supressors. I have some 208gr A-max's to load for my AR but have not gotten around to it yet. If I was allowed to put a can on it I would be all over it. I love the idea of being able to shoot without worrying about damage to my hearing or annoying anyone nearby.
So far I have loaded 110gr, 125gr, 143gr, 150gr, 155gr, and 165gr supersonic loads with H110 and will be heading to the range next week to do load testing. Hopefully they all function well and I'm hoping at least a few turn out to be accurate from the 9.75" barrel. I'll post my range results and loads in the reloading section when I get time after my testing.
I've converted 500 rounds of 223 brass into blackout so far which adds to my attraction to the round, 223 brass is easy to come across and easy (but time consuming) to convert, I have around 1000 more sitting in a box in my gun room waiting to start their new life as 300 blackout.
I am considering buying a boltgun in blackout and when Savage comes out with one I probably will. Hard to beat the bullet selection in 308 projectiles and it doesn't use much powder per cartridge so a pound goes a long way.
I was told by a local retailer the other day that it should be available in bulk later in 2013 as well :)

Savage had plans to come out with a M10 in .300 BLK but bailed out on it. As said earlier, you can buy a pre-fit barrel already chamberred for it. Having said that, Savage wouldn't be my first choice in a bolt gun platform. Why? Because there are known ejection issues with this small case and the Savage bolt head design. If you do have issues you're going to have to tweak it on your own.

BTW, Remington UMC 115gr. ammunition has been available in small quantities in Canada so far. It's not all that "cheap" though at near $15/box of 20. Apparently the Russian company Wolf is comming out with steel cased ammo in .300 BLK but I seriously doubt you'll see it here in Canada.

Right now, the biggest challenge in developing a market for this cartridge in Canada is a total lack of non restricted firearms, ammunition availability, and the total abscense of factory made brass. I'm committed to making my own at this point because I'm tired of waiting for the "Big Wheels of Change" to occur at Gravel Agencies, the Freedom Group distributor here in Canada. I've called them on several occasions in the past and they weren't even aware the cartridge existed.

-no need for a response... I know you like the .300!-

I liked 762x39 as well. FWIW I owned three bolt guns in that caliber. Two were custom and one was a Mini Mauser. None of them shot nearly as well as I wanted so they all got sold off. I get that you like the round as I did once too but the 300 is simply an easier case to live with. The two rounds do much the same thing but the 300 is more efficient and easier to load subsonic which is what I primarily wanted out of it. The 300 is also much more user friendly in the AR platform.

I did a lot of work with 762x39 subsonic loads back in a time when hardly anyone was doing it. My data was learned by trial and error because there was no source for load data.

I have owned six 300 Whisper / BLK rifles starting from several years prior to the introduction of the BLK cartridge by Remington. Currently I have three 300 BLK's in two different platforms.

I wish I could find more reliable reloading data for the 300BLK, I find lots on forums but not much published data for a wide variety of bullets. I've been using what I can find and interpolating loads that are close to what I am doing and just starting light and hoping for the best. I'm really excited to get out to the range next week since I have 400 rounds loaded and ready to try, 5 or 10 of each powder charge/bullet combination depending on the load, 10 of each with the Hornady 110 v-max, 5 each with the M-25 tracers, 5 each with the 165 GMX, etc. All with H110 so far.
Factory is available but like you said it's pretty expensive. I have 120 rounds of factory Rem 115gr and a box of Hornady 208 whisper subsonic which was quite a bit more expensive but I want to try it.

The reasons I like Savage are that I own 2 and I had a Model 10 precision carbine in 223 that I sold, I've have never had a problem with them, they are accurate and they are really easy to rebarrel. I have nothing against Rem and have owned a couple in the past but just prefer the Savage as an out of the box rifle. The Remingtons can be made into great rifles with some work but I don't have time to fiddle with a rifle.

I think we will see 300BLK brass available in Canada, hopefully it doesn't take long.

If anyone wants to share reloading data send me a PM or post it in the reloading section. I was looking in there earlier but couldn't find anything. I have lots of data for the loads I've built but none of it has been tested so it isn't much use yet.

Just put a Magpul CTR stock on it but don't have a pic yet.

Cr5: Man, there's tons of loading info available online for the Blackout. 300blktalk.com has an impressive but often confusing "Handloading" section that is geared towards AR users. Hodgdon Powders has lots of loads listed on their site as well. Any number of other sites like snipershide.com and quarterbore.net are going to have handloading available as well.

As far as AR uses go, not every style of bullet is going to feed properly or have load combinations that are going to produce reliable cycling. The Hornady 110's are going to work well for you as are inexpensive bullets like 147gr.-150gr. FMJ BT designs by Winchester & Hornady. You'll no doubt experience troubles with round nose, flat nose, and certain VLD designs that don't work well with M4 style feed ramps. This is something you are no doubt well aware of.

As far as manual repeating firearms go, the world is your oyster. Bullet weights from 90gr.-245gr., round nose to VLD bullet styles, and powders ranging from fast pistol/shotgun burn rates to middle of the road rifle powders, are all at your disposal. As you can see, it's highly versatile.

I've been using a lot of H110 and Lil' Gun. Tried some Trail Boss before and will likely do so again when I can find a suitably accurate bullet to use. I plan on using Unique or possibly some 2400 and American Select as well.

remigton sells sonic ammo.....already on the shelves of some BC whoresale sports......

I have yet to have a extracion issue with my savage/shillen build, like every other savage you simply pull the extrator out and replace the factory detent ball with a 3.5mm ball bearing.......

Sory if i has already been answered- But are they mking ammo and brass for it Or does it all have to be formed?

Yes, lots of ammo state side and is trickling up here in small amounts. Factory brass is being made and has been for almost 2 yrs. now but none has made it into Canada.

Yep. Not as many people are aware of the modification necessary to make the Savage eject well with the smallish case of the .300 BLK. Glad to see that the mod is working for you. I've heard of others who have done it but are still having issues.

The are a number of other brands that feed, extract, and eject .300 BLK without any issues at all. Those include Weatherby Vanguard/Howa 1500, Tikka T3, CZ 527, and I believe Mini Mausers are quite reliable as well.

To test the reliability of feeding, I had a mag full of 110gr. and 220gr. RN ammunition alternating one for the other. There was no binding in the mag with the mismatch of ammo and no hang-ups while running the bolt to load the chamber. I was pleased.

You might be able to get one a little cheaper if you wait and buy from somewhere else. Epps seldom gas the best prices on things I've looked for.

TSE just got a few of the Rem 700 SPS 300 BLK rifles. They just arrived and haven't even been unboxed yet so they won't be on our website for a day or two.

We also got the 308 Win AAC SD rifles as well.

Has a max effective range of 400 yds. according to AAC but I'm personally thinking 300 yds. is a safer bet.
