Which NR Rifle and why?

+1 for the Tavor 21. I got mine a few days ago, have about 500 rds through it so far - close to 1000 rounds through it now in total including use from the original owner. Functions flawlessly. I won't hesitate to buy another one for my son when he gets a bit older.

whats it like to shoot and clean?

Yeah the trigger thing is a bummer, know any dealers with a Tavor? I think if i got an XCR i'd get it in 308 so i could hunt with it. How do you like the ACR and USC?

Had an SL8... sold it, it was sooo heavy and long... NEver handled or shot a swiss though know any dealers with a NR one?

While I agree the sl8is heavy and long in stock format, with a different butt stock it's a whole different rifle. Also, it's class in weight to the swiss arms non-restricted. Depends what you intend to use it for and if you need a bull barrel or not.

Personally I find cleaning a breeze, it's a piston gun, a good cleaning take 15-20 minutes with a proper cleaning kit. If you need to eat off of it then maybe a bit longer ;)

The Swiss is probably one of if not the most accurate NR rifle out there regardless of what ammo you feed it. And definitely fun. You can get a AR mag adapter for it if you insist on using LAR-15 mags, but there are other options too, the XCR is a fine rifle, and if gizmo's and gadgets are your thing then it's the best modular NR rifle out of the box.

I run a Swiss and the Old man runs the XCR, their both fun, again my vote goes to the Swiss, but your preferences may differ from mine.

This video has both rifles in action.

Of the Two, which is easier to handle? (like placement of safety, mag changes, etc?) Nice shooting BTW looks like a lot of fun :)

Really? I've found the Swiss Arms to be one of the better ones accuracy wise. It certainly beats the VZ-58 and Tavor, and I don't think you can say that the SL8, MR1 and XCR are significantly more accurate than the Swiss (sure, some are better than others, but we're talking the big picture here). The biggest con to the Swiss Arms is the inability to free float the barrel, which does give the others a slight advantage, but considering a consistent 1MOA is possible out of the Swiss with the right ammunition, it's hardly a slouch in the accuracy department.

I will say that the SL8 I had was a tack shooter, like the thing i'm pretty sure shot lazer beams... but it was heavy and cumbersome and not really something I want to lug around all day, Freaking gorgeous rifle though. I'd like to see a comparison at 100 yds of all these rifles... someone up to the challenge?

Travor, Swiss Arms, R700P in Accuracy International Stock (pretty much a black rifle after that)

Lol those were my options but I want a semi (i have too many bolt actions) But I've narrowed it down i think to the Swiss arms, Tavor and possibly a modded out SL8 but I'm not sure yet.

Oh wow thats good to hear :) congrats on the rifle :)

Yeah i was thinking that, I do like that they come with a heavy barrel, thats something that i'm willing to sacrifice some weight for :). I suppose i could throw magpul everything on it :)

Yea the 7.62x39 xcr would be sweet, dunno if I'd hunt with it tho, I know my rem700 .308, or 7.62x54 I've shot moose with it at 500 yards and the freekin bullets basically bounce off them lol for hunting I'd be after a 300 win mag or if your feeling frisky a .338 lapua lol

The usc is alright:) but the acr is the pride of my collection, totally in love with everything about it:) I've shot so many different kinds of guns and it's still my fav... Was just down in Arizona for a few months, shot a full auto scar heavy, scar-l, p90, m4, ak-47, ak-74, mp-5, f2000, saw belt fed, could go on and on..... all good guns but couldn't wait to get back and use my Bm acr haha everything about it is just pure 3/4 chubb awesomeness haha it's got some weight to it compared to the ar-15's but hey if I was a girl I might complain lol.

I think grouseriver has some tar21's left and lanzshootingsupplies has a pre order I believe

As far as carrying around a rifle all day long, there are much more comfortable options out there than these two. I would say both are superior platform's (overall) than the Tavor, but the Tavor easily wins in the lightweight carry all day category, the big turn off for me their is the trigger, yikes!!!! And it definitely struggles to keep up accuracy wise too. But there service rifles not MOA benchrest rifles.

As far as Handling (Ergonomics is what I think you meant) placement of safety and mag changes etc.... I think the ergonomics of the XCR are outstanding, you could certainly get very fast with it. But again, I love the Swiss ergo's, I used to think the left side charging handle was a detractor, but have since learned to manipulate it quite quickly when required. In Ergonomics, the XCR is hard to beat, but the Swiss is definitely giving it a run for it's money IMO, I know you can get fast with the Swiss, with practice.

Nice iron sights on the Swiss. Good work on the mag changes too ;)

That was the first time I practiced letting my mags fall free like that on the move, usually when I'm moving I retain them in my dump pouch, but thought I'd try ditching them for a couple run's. Nearly lost one in the dirt a couple times. When standing still I can get the mag changes faster and more fluent. That just means more practice on the move is needed. You can never practice too much, there is always something new to learn, or something I could be doing different to improve.

Where do I get a backyard like that? :D

That depends on where you live??? This is Vancouver Island, there really are a shiit ton of places to shoot on this Island and most are less than an hour from Downtown Victoria. You just have to get out there and look. If your a city dweller, but love to shoot in the boonies, it's definitely a nice place to be. The spot I use the most has a sweet view of the Ocean, and the Juan de fuca strait.

I know my rem700 .308, or 7.62x54 I've shot moose with it at 500 yards and the freekin bullets basically bounce off them lol

To hear a fellow hunter laugh out loud at something like this is very disturbing. I was taught ethical hunting, and bouncing under sized or under powered bullets off of moose at 500yds, or any other range, is not what I consider ethical hunting practice. I'd be very careful about who I bragged to about un-ethical hunting behavior like this.

I don't care to split hairs, and for me the Swiss is plenty accurate enough. When shooting against some of the others I wouldn't bet the house on the Swiss NR, cqb maybe but not the NR.

Actually, I'd bet you may find the CQB even MORE accurate than the rifle.

I just bought an ACR with NR barrel... I'm interested to see if I can get more accuracy than I could with my Swiss guns!

Well, I just bought a Swiss Arms Black Special so there's my vote. Enduring heritage and quality, ridiculously expensive accessories to throw money at, a .223 combat rifle one can take out in the woods and plink with but still dazzle friends at the range. After I sell my LMT kit to a buddy it will be my only rifle aside from my two shotguns so I wanted a nice one.

Should i have bought my XCR-M before my Swiss Black, i would had passed on the Swiss as the MR-1 was fully satisfactory, now i got it, it is paid for, i will use it, but this is one of those time, you just buy to fast, no regret, but it could have being different,... JP.

I'm not trying to split hairs at all, just pointing out that the accuracy of the Swiss Arms is better than most. If this is the point you were trying to make, then I read in to your post too much, and thought you were saying something else.

Steve, I'll put up my VZ in 5.56 up against your swiss arms any day of the week. Name a time and place.

Riiiiiiight :) Welcome to the forum Pal ;)

Little piece of advice, this is the internet, you have no idea who your talking to on these forums, keep your childish school yard challenges to yourself, and maybe you'll learn a thing or two! Now, I can only assume you mean to put a VZ against a Swiss in the accuracy department  If you insist, I have a spot near hear where I can get a full 500 Meters, was thinking of going out this Sunday. I say we start at 400M, open sighted of course (I don't shoot with optics) and after 25 rounds we'll see how the targets look ;) Really though, good, committed shooting partners on the South Island are hard to find, so if your in the area and really want to come out for some shooting, without the school yard challenge BS, PM me and I'd be happy to take you out :)

In all seriousness, I don't often shoot for groupings, if you must challenge someone, challenge someone who regularly shoots a Swiss Arms for groupings. I would talk to AR180Shooter, or J996, they have both posted some very impressive results of what the Swiss rifles are capable of and I'm sure they would both be happy to compare groupings between your VZ with there Swiss rifles ;) I believe AR180 has shot .6MOA at 200yards. He'll correct me if I'm wrong.

Have you got any pics of groupings you've shot with your VZ that you'd care to share with us? Now that you've boasted, I know everyone wants to see some?

Edit, it WAS .6MOA at 200yds, here is the Video

A VZ against a Swiss, that i would like to side bet on, more i would take that bet with my MR-1 aganst the VZ... JP.

Not to highjack has someone out there did a bench shoot test of most of these rifles to see the MOA. Because i too im looking in the NR range of rifles and the swiss arms would be a swift kicking to my bank accounts GunNUTZ.
