Can someone explain me why the hell is the S&W M&P15-22 restricted while the Mossberg 22 tactical is non-restricted ?

They're basically the same thing... a 22lr AR lookalike

Is there a way to challenge the ruling on the restricted / non-restricted classification of a firearm ? Cause this should be reclassified as non-restricted, same goes for BX-25 mags for the Ruger 10/22s...

This is all so frustrating
 
You live in Quebec and your wanting to change classification of a fire arm. No offense but should you not worry more about why you still need to register your non restricteds.? Just saying....
 
I didn't chose to live in Quebec, that will change as soon as possible. Yes the long gun registry is absolutely retarded, my votes didn't go towards keeping that registry that's for sure...

Doesn't change the fact that banana #1 is restricted and banana #2 is non-r...
 
banana #1 is restricted because it has two recievers (upper and lower) like a AR15, and shares some components with (trigger group) & rear stock with a AR15. Therefore - because it is cool - our masters at the RCMP have classified it as a AR-varient.

banana #2 is non-restricted because Mossberg took a crappy cheap 22 rifle and wrapped it in a cheap flimsy plastic skin. At its heart its still a plinkster.
 
Basically the root of the problem is how they can name restricteds even though they clearly fit the criteria for non restricted rifles. And then it gives the over powered RCMP the ability to classify "variants" causing other rifles to be restricted purely on a flawed concept. Same reason we can't have Aks or 22 "variants " because someone deemed a standard piston op semi auto too scary for civilian use... Don't like it write your MP .... Whining on a forum won't get us anywhere

Definitely just the "variant" crap, but colt makes a 22lr specific platform that does not have a separate upper/lower set up. Still restricted though, simply because its a colt.

Ruger sr-22 is better then the mossberg any way lol

That's a little harsh don't you think? I could probably think of worse guns just as many 10-22 variants are not the "end all, be all" of .22 semi's like some people seem to think they are.
 
I would probably need a lot of help in writing this up, as my political knowledge is absolutely terrible (I'm a psychology student, not a politician eh) and facing one of Quebec's MP would require a lot of tactics haha

Some of those "on variants" restricted are just stupid, I would absolutely LOVE an AK variant, but I can't (Unless the WASR isn't prohibited, didn't see it in the list of prohibs) and while plinking at the range with a 22 is cute and all, I have to drive an hour to get to my club, which might not have a RO present, practicing on an AR platform while I go hiking on my uncle's land would've been great, especially considering it would be legal if it was a mossy lol
 
Basically the government gave a bunch of natives (Inuits maybe) valmets as gifts.. And they didn't want to look like idiots so they allowd it... No other reason just covering themselves ... Even acknowledging that they are a very efficient cold weather rifle ... Seems fair doesn't it

I've said it once and ill say it again.. These mossbergs can touch the old ones... The higher cap mags are nice but nothing beats an old model 152, 151s ect ... But I guess they are good for the money... But I'd rather have a 10/22
