Okay, so I am searching high and low through the regs and I can't seem to find whether there is a mag limit in BC. My friends are all telling me its 3 rounds. I am not so sure.

Any help?

From what I have heard, it's five rounds (+1) for centerfire magazine (most mags are pinned to this limit), rimfires (.22) are unlimited, and as for bolt action and lever actions magazines I've heard that there is no limit. Shotguns are four (either four +1 or three +1). Handguns are ten rounds.

For hunting purposes, Shotguns must be plugged to hold no more than 3 shells when hunting with shot. When using a shotgun with slugs, there is no 3 shot restriction. When using a shotgun for non hunting purposes, there is no mag restriction. There are no rifle magazine restrictions for hunting purposes.

All federal FIREARM magazine restrictions apply of course. Like 10 rounds for handguns, 5 rounds for semi auto rifle magazines, etc.

For shotgunning waterfowl? 2 in tube, 1 chambered.
Centerfire semi's are max 5, others no limit. Hunting regs
only cover the water fowling, federal firearms laws are the
rest. Your friends seem very uninformed. Are they legal
hunters? Forgive my doubt, but hmmm...

Gatehouse is correct.

Shotguns with shot must only have two in the mag and one in the chamber when hunting. Legal hunting methods and definitions of shot are stated in the synopsis.

Goto google and put this in

bc hunting synopsis

It only applys to hunting not target shooting.....

3 total for hunting birds with shot slugs no limit ie deer buckshot 3 max...

Center fire rifles 5...

target shooting what ever is legal and fits into the gun...

Not all centerfire rifles are included in the 5 round restriction. Only semi autos

From what I understand
semi auto non restricted center fire 5 rounds
Manual action (bolt/pump) non restricted center fire unlimited rounds
Semi auto non restricted rim fire unlimited rounds
restricted 10 rounds

Hunting is a different ball game... I think shotguns its 2 in the pipe one in the chamber, don't know about the rest...

The only BC limit on magazine capacities for hunting is a shotgun magazine must be plugged to hold 2, only when Hunting with birdshot.

No limits for slugs, center-fire, or rimfire for hunting in BC only the Federal Firearm laws.

I've never seen anywhere in print that there are limits for center-fire rifles when hunting in BC. If I'm wrong please provide the link.
Pretty sure it's legal to hunt with 10 rounds in a .303 or 7 rounds in a 30-30, 8 rounds in a M1 Garand, or even a LAR mag in an XCR.

The semi auto rifle has one known exception...the Garand, where the 8 shot capacity is allowed.
Other than that, 5 shots under federal regs for semi-auto rifles.
Eagleye.

Straight from the regs:

"It is unlawful to hunt with a set gun, or to hunt wildlife with a pump,
repeating or auto-loading shotgun with a magazine capable of holding
more than two shells. Where the use of a shotgun is allowed for
hunting or trapping big game, an unplugged shotgun holding more than
2 shells and firing single projectiles only (slugs) may be used."

Yes, Drillbit,t hat is correct. You could have a 200 round magazine in your bolt action rifle and legally hunt in BC

Yes... Except you'd be in violation of the federal center fire magazine limit of 5. Magazine limits do not depend on the rifle or action but on the type of ammunition. It also doesnt matter if the mag is used in hunting, target shooting at the range or a permenent piece in your gun safe. All centerfire magazines for rifles (not shot guns or handguns) are limited to 5 rounds by federal law, any magazines over this are prohibited devices. How did you pass your PAL licensing without knowing this.

How did you pass your PAL licencing with this degree of ignorance of the law?
Please take the time to actually read the law.

You are correct... Im outta line, only applies to semi-autos only

FYI
Semi auto, centerfire rifle mags are limited to 5.
Pistol mags are limited to 10.

Can legally use a Pistol mag in a semi-auto rifle. If you don't beleive me, look up LAR pistol mags (probably a sticky in the black rifle section), and JR carbine rifles using Glock pistol mags.
Can legally hunt with these pistol mags in rifles in BC too.
