This winter I started using a 22lr with a 11.5" barrel while hunting coyotes. I've kept all my shots within 80 or so yards and I haven't lost a coyote yet. In fact, most of them have died suprisingly quickly. I even made the last two summersault while shot broadside running. I'm switching back and forth between cci stingers and win bulk 40gr hp's and I haven't noticed much of a difference. I just wanted to share my findings. I'm not advocating 22lr for coyotes but I will be continuing to use it. My father in law has a deer farm and the coyotes have been very hard on his herd this year so I've been doing all my hunting around there. I can't use centerfires around here and I've shot quite a few in years past with a 17hmr with far less than satisfactory results. I don't have a 22mag so that left the lowly 22 lr or shotgun and I'm not a big fan of shotgunning coyotes. I used to feel that the 22 was inadequate for anything larger than jackrabbits and that trying to shoot coyotes would be inhumane but after 10-12 clean, quick kills I'm getting more confidence in it all the time.
