Berdan .254 primers in Canada?

im guessing these are the british size primers your not going to find any anywhere

if its for .303 british dont waste your time if its for a bigger cal say a nitro express or maybe some .577-450 best bet is to drill out the case for shotgun primers but only the part you drill out will grab the primer something else that could be done is sleaving the primer pocket

Actually I am looking for Berdans for the 7.62x54r. I read somewhere I needed the .254. Is that not correct as I have no idea? I know it will be a real pain getting the primers out but winter is long and I have lots of time. I will check out Budget Shooters Supply. It would be fun to get some of the old surplus casing up and running. thanks.

Try successfully removing (say) 50 Berdan primers before shopping for more. I predict you'll buy 7.62x54R boxer primed brass after that depriming experience.
The three tools I could find for removing Berdans primers all looked annoying.

You can buy boxer primed 7.62x54R ammunition from one of the sponsors, or unloaded brass from another sponsor.

waste of time just buy boxer brass

rodregier - you are probably correct but it would be fun to try. Budget Shooter Supply does sell Berdan primers. Looks like a chore to get those primers out. hydraulics seem to be the key to getting them out.

hk33ka1 - not sure who makes brass berdan. I have got some brass stuff but it is boxer primed. All my berdan cases are copper flashed mild steel. I just plan on neck sizing it anyway to shoot cast.

Thanks guys.

no point in wasting a costly berdan primer on a x54r shooting cast you may beable to get away with drilling through the old primer dead center taking out the anvil at the same time and leaving the outer piece of primer in there to act as a sleeve.

ive used steel with .209 primers a small charge of red dot and a round ball covered in grease you want a round ball that just bearly grips the rifling then covering it with white lithium grease or vaseline the grease act like a sabot and the ball just griping the rifling make it work like a slow twist i did this with surplus steel cases that i cleaned like i would after shooting corrosive ammo to stop rust and get rid of any corrosive salts left in the case

but really its better off to just buying brass and loading it with cast its cheap

You know what guys - you are right. Got looking at empties and read this posting below (looks like we are reinventing the wheel). I think I will just buy more boxer prime brass. Thanks.

I do like the idea 209 primers with a round ball for blinking. Sounds like that may be something to try.

i was using around 6gr of red dot and some poly fill on top of it too to keep the powder on the primer
