Is this normal? S&W 629 4.2"

Look, in reality, my point is that nobody is going to offer me one at that price. I chose that number because another poster said he flogged his off for $800 (which I have a hard time believing). A lot of people like to gripe, but the guns are still worth what was paid - and that's what I'm driving at.

I'm not tryign to post an EE WTB and it should not be interpreted as such. If I wanted one bad enough, I'd just go buy it. It's like when ppl say "I'll take all the ones you will sell me for X". Got it?

Well you can believe it. I sold mine for 800 bux.

Honestly guys, this whole thing is way overblown. The peening I see in these pics isn't all that bad and is likely the result of careless handling by someone somewhere along the retail chain, but should not affect function. Ditto the drag marks.

QUOTE]

I wish I had your attitude when it comes to buying items that are "new".
When I'm spending more money on an item (in this case a S&W vs a Ruger) I should expect a better product based on their track records. Besides, I want to be the one to cause the drag marks and peening on my new HG (regardless of the fact the function isn't affected)...and not by some joker.

I'm not saying it's acceptable, just that I would not flip the gun and swear off S&W forever over it. If I had such a gun, I would live with it. Disappointed? yes. But not "sell the gun cheap" disappointed.

I think you over reacted and sold the gun to fast i bought one and it had very mild peaning I wouldn't even have noticed it until I seen this thread the guns very accurate and has a great trigger way better than the rugers I had I looked at some pics of other stainless s&w revolvers 686 and 629 even older pics and if you look close they all have some peaning on the cylinder, and I don't believe this came from some retailer spinning the cylinder and playing with the gun.mine looks great and am happy with my purchase

I didnt sell the gun just because this thread lol. I have a Glock 22rtf2 and a remingtion 870P max comming. As well i bought a surefire x300 ultra. So i had a few things to pay for.

ok I know where your coming from I have to sell some to purchase others if I didn't every closet in the house would be filled with gun lockers and my wife wouldn't have any room to put her shoes.

I have a 629 with a 8 3/8 inch barrel that I bought two to three years ago. I just looked at it and it has the same peening. The gun works great and it doesn't bother me one bit. I guess some of us are a little fussier then others.

Since you were oblivious to the defects for years the saving grace response OF COURSE is DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY. :stirthepot2:

Just confirmed my 629-3 does not having peening issues so def. would have been in the disappointed fussier crowd had I found them.
Of course in reality had the peening being there I'd posted it doesn't bother me :)

If my revolver showed some peening and drag marks after three years of use I could care less....but 3 minutes out of the box I wouldn't be happy regardless of the fact that its functionally sound.

I got a response from S&W with regards to the possibility of these being sold as used guns; I'm including this information because it's actually informative (I've underlined the important part). Enjoy.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting us.

We do not have any record of selling used 629's to North Sylva. Any reconditioned firearm would have the letter "U" stamped on the frame under the yoke and be sold as a used firearm.

If further assistance is required please reply accordingly.

Sincerely,

**** *

There you have it. If you have a "U" it's reconditioned apparently.
Anyway, I bought a Rossi Mare's Leg today in .44Mag so hopefully that will cheer me up.

Cheers~

Mine is still not back yet so can't check. I'm sure there is no U, but if there was I'd go ape****.

Anyway, with todays Ranch Hand purchase (in .44 of course)... check the EE soon 'cause the 629 is going up unfired, NIB.

This thread will be the new poster child when folks complaint of ChiCom Junk.

Recall the S&W 1911 Anny, retail at $1300, had rough machining inside the slide; the same poor machining that earned ChiCom reputation for junk (finishing), of course the NORC are $350.

QC for S&W really gone downhill. Stick with my older models.

The 686 I just bought new yesterday is beautifully made with no peening or any issues whatsoever. Beautiful trigger too. I would never compare it to Norinco.
