I dont like the sights on my 1911 Norinco there to small are there any good sights out there that i can replace them with .

There's a site sponsor that sells the 1911 with night sights .. I would suggest sending them an email to see if they can get them for you

Edit: frontier is the sponsor

You would have to mill the slide to accommodate new sights.

I had one done, cost was 150 for the front and rear dovetails. New sights were of course not included..... I sourced the sights from brownelles. They have pretty much everything available on the market.

FWIW, last Norinco I did, I had to spot-anneal the slide at the rear sight dovetail as the HSS dovetail cutter I had was not cutting it very well - those Norinco slides are HARD. A Cobalt cutter might have worked better but I couldn't get one at the time.

This is not as big a deal as it sounds since most 1911 slides are only hardened from the slide stop notch forward.

When converting, I usually go with the standard Novak cut.

Damn right the Norinco steel is hard... I de-horned, polished, parkerized etc on mine and let me tell you, using a felt wheel and 6 different grits of polishing compound the Wilson combat beavertail I fitted to my Colt was soft as cheeze compared to the Norinco parts and bits I did ;)

150.00 for someone to clamp a slide in a mill and run a cutter through it? Sounds a bit pricey...

This is the reason I gave up on putting tritium sights on my Norc. Sounded like a pain in the a$$ and everyone I contacted about it didn't seem interested in helping fit them. I think it would be easier to order some new sights and file them to fit, if you budget was your main constraint. I just couldn't justify spending $300+ to buy and ship sights and then pay to have my dovetails cut on a $360 gun. Too bad no one made 1911 sights that drop into Norincos

Jace at TNT is who cut my slide. Take your 1911 in and see what he says......

The biggest reason for buying a nork 1911 is that you can upgrade a part here or a part there, cut into the slide/frame and not feel "guilty" about screwing with a $1000 colt/Kimber/STI/insert 1911 brand here......

When I had my slide cut it was more than a front and rear dovetail. The entire back end of the slide had to be milled down to flush mount an adjustable Bo-mar style rear and there were 2 holes drilled and tappd so that the rear sight elevation screw would work etc.

I had some installed, front was staked, rear was pretty much gi cut, sight was filed a bit to fit. Local smith put them on for me, cost was not too much. Sights are from Brownells

this is why I couldn't justify doing my sights. The gun cost $300! I sold it and bought one of the newer commanders with a bomar style rear factory installed. Very happy with it

I would sooner buy sights and file them until they fit

Every quote I have got from Darren has always been 30-45% higher than rates and quotes from other gunsmiths/dealers. For that reason, I try to avoid giving him business, as he thinks his service is some how superior. I hate having so few options in Regina.

For example: Ellwood Epps lists their dovetail machining quote at $50.... that's a huge difference.

FWIW, Jason at Gunco in Ottawa will convert a Norc to Novak. Not sure what he charges, but he does spot-anneal to make it possible. That's who I got the idea from when I did one. (before anyone asks, no I don't work on 1911's for other ppl - just my own stuff)

I DO have a day jog ya know!! lol...

maybe you need a night job too lol lol

I have put sights on a number of Norc 1911s.

if the front sight is a dovetail, then the dovetail has to be cut a bit bigger to be a standard size.

If the front sight is staked (older Norc 1911s) then a standard Colt 70 series sight fits.

I have put adjustable sights on many of them. the Norc dovetail fits the rear sights without modification.

I am about to put a front sight on one. It is a stake on, but i will have a dovetail cut, since stake ons seem to break from time to time.
