Good Iltis!
I think Iltis57 said I best when he called it "Olive Crack"!
Not only is "Iltising" (offroading) a huge part of it, but fixing, tweaking, and searching for parts is all part of the appeal. It's not like vehicles today where you have to be a rocket appliance (Ricky

to fix. The basic tools (and some serious elbow grease) will get the job done.
It's personally satisfying to keep these suckers running, and when they're well maintained, they are solid vehicles. Seriously.
I see a lot of guys putting rugged offset rims on their already wide vehicles, and while it might look cool, everybody laughs when they catch a wheel on a tree or can't even enter the trail. There's something to be said for the classic offroading shape ; )
I've had a few off roaders, and I must say, for the shade tree mechanic like myself, it's the best bush truck I've ever had. It's basically a sidexside that is street legal, so you don't have to worry about trailering it to the trails and back.
And you can't argue with the top down, doors off, windshield folded, cool factor ; )
