Is the 5" S&W 460V available in Canada?

Wow, wish I could have found a 5" in nice shape for $900. Oh well - they are almost all gone off dealer shelves though and I wasn't going to risk not being part of the fun. With all the BS down south and the panic buying, who knows if/when they will ever be imported again, and honestly, I've never seen one for sale used. I suspect they are NOT that common, even on the CGN EE.

Although one guy recently listed a 500 and a 460, both 8,3/4 guns for 1200 each. Too long a bbl for me though. I like 5" and less.

Rumour has it S&W will soon release a scandium frame S&W X-SHORT frame with a 2" cylinder chambered in 500 S&W Special. If that comes in 4.2", I may have to get it too... ;)

I think I'd be careful hotrodding .45 Colt brass - you can only take it so far safely. It's not all that thick at the base compared to the 454 Casul rounds or the 460V rounds. Elmer Keith invented the 44 Mag b/c the Colt brass kept blowing up his SAAs whenever he hotrodded it.

Just curious why not go for the production king with a 500. Go for broke. For reloading the dies are cheap relative to factory ammo, a box of 20 XTP buys me dies and LNL shell plate.
...
Such a versatile revolver. Can shoot .45 Colt, 454 Casul and 460 Magnum. What's not to like? The ports should make 45 Colt feel like .38 SPL gallery loads...

Loading 42gn H110 driving a 350gn XTP for my 500. Massive recoil. I like Lil'gun better, recoil seems smoother.
If 45 Colt feels like 38 Spl, then you need to bump up the power a bit. Mine bucks pretty nice with a load of 28grs H110 under a 230gr FMJ. About equal to my 44 mag.

(E)

Even if one die set works for all you'll want a set for each to avoid readjusting (very time consuming). Lee dies are cheap, starts at $30.

Get a progressive press, just load only one round at a time when you start. For .50 S&W I only do one round at a time as the sizing requires considerable force that messes up consistent seating.
Hornady 350gn XTP are 4 bucks a round.
What are the chances that a single calibre press can load 44mag, 45LC, and 454 Casull? I would consider reloading if this was possible. I guess I really should be asking in the Ammo/reloading section.
460mag for $3.75/rnd? I bought Hornady's for under $2.00/rnd. Still expensive AFAIC. Is there a difference?
btw...I was just teasing you about your 460v...well done!

For me personally....it all came down to "looks". The 5" ported 460v looks so much more bada$$. It really caught my eye in the movie RED.
dies and LNL shell plate...it's all Greek to me(no offence intended) I need to do my homework.

S&W sells the 460V 2:1 over the 500. There's a reason for that. S&W markets the 460 as an improvement over the 500 which was a "first attempt" and remains in the lineup so they can claim they produce the most powerful handgun in the world.

The 460 can be loaded to much higher velocities and the right reloads outperform the 500 past about 150 yards or so in terms of terminal energy and ballistic coefficient.

But I get ya. Both are cool guns. I just like being able to shoot cheap(er) light(er) 45 Colt loads while reserving the thumpers for whenever I feel like it ;)

Another reason I think the 460 is more popular is due to people being able to buy 45 cal projectiles for much cheaper then 50 cals

The 460v can shoot 45 Schofield, 45LC, 454 Casull, and 460 S&W Magnums:)
"V"=Versatile and/or 5(")

According to you, guys, can technically a .455 webley ammo be shot safely too? If so, it would be a 5 in 1!!!
And I would be in the market for one probably... ;)

And with home-made moon clips, .45acp would be on the way?
