Hi.Has anyone out there purchased a ruger sr 1911?I just got mine the other day in the mail. The grip safety is loose and jiggles if you shake the gun also the trigger is loose and jiggles as well.Gun is brand new.i havn't shot it yet my range closes during the winter.Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

As said above, there are some tighter / looser than others. Grip safety rattle is usually corrected by adjusting the third leg (rightmost) on the sear spring. Trigger rattle can be partially addressed by doing some reshaping of the trigger bow so it has a small amount of tension in the trigger way. Of course with a new gun you might just want to return it...

It seems like the latest batch of Ruger 1911 rattles a lot. I tried one and to be honest with you, it was as much accurate as my Springfield Trophy Match. Mind you, for a $700 1911 made in USA, don't expect the same quality as a $2000 1911.

Yup, mine is tight also. I made sure to call the store before buying though. I made the sales person examin it and give me his word that this particular pistol was up to expectations. Great gun if you can get one that doesn't rattle like a can of spray paint!

I would actually shoot the gun before jumping to any conclusions. All else is secondary to whether the gun runs.

It isn't realistic to expect a $700 1911 to be tightly fitted like a $3,000 semi-custom. As mentioned previously, neither issue is particularly difficult to correct if they really bother you that much. 1911s, especially budget ones, are not a good choice if you don't like tinkering.

I have had a look at two in retail stores. One had an incredilbly loose slide to frame fit and the barral moved when i pressed down on the barral at the chamber end(the hood i think). The other one also had a loose slide but not so bad, however it also had what i considered a poorly fit barral but i am no expert. Both had good barral bushing fit though.Nice looking guns but i have decided i won't buy one without seeing it first.

Tell that to STI. This is exactly why the STI Spartan is still the best 1911 under $1000. The Ruger does look better though.

I'm happy with mine. A few posts and comments out there from me....this may expedite some Q and A's for you. My SR1911 is tight with no rattles. You can ask the seller for a possible replacement...but chances are a replacement will be handed over to "warranty". You will probably just enjoy how nice it will shoot for you, minor flaws and all.

Tight barrel lockup will give you good accuracy.
Tight slide to frame fit (And other components) is a sign of good worksmanship.

Mine was a bit on the loose side but it shoot pretty good. According to spec they said...

The bottom line is,how does it shoot? Before people start sending them back for "QC' issues, they should probably take them to the range

My SR1911 was pretty loose out the box,but actually shoots very well and is quite reliable.Ive shot a 2 inch 8 shot group off sandbags(wish I could do that offhand!)at 25 m,so really cant ask more than that.

Reading the Ruger forums,it seems that the initial Rugers were very tight, but had galling problems,so the tolerances have loosened up subsequently(not sure how true this is,but it makes sense).People put far too much emphasis on slide/frame fit as regards accuracy, and while its nice to handle a tight gun with a smoothly cycling slide, practically, this is not that important.

I still think that as a entry level 1911with all the features that you could want, its a pretty good deal
