AR15 Lubrication and cleaning thread

so much for nutritious AND delicious......
:(

If youre cleaning your own, use something non-toxic, if its a military weapon, just use the CLP and wash up really good when you take breaks/smoke/are done. I've used CLP bare handed for years and haven't encountered any adverse affects(yet). Although our medic said he had treated a younger female soldier who had attempted to use it for recreation and had an angy case of rectal inflammation. So don't do that with it, it'll make your bum sore.

+1 for CLP and otis cleaning kit. I add in any generic gun solvent for tough jobs and my AR is ready in less than 30mins depending on how trigger happy I was that day. The biggest thing is ensuring its properly oiled and cleaned regularily, no different than maintaining a car with regular service intervals. Regular maintenance saves hours down the line on scrubbing and picking hard carbon deposits. Although I am also anal with taking care of my gun.

Has anyone used and/or know where I could find weapon shield? I had hear good reviews (us sites) and emailed the company directly but have not received a reply yet. I heard a little goes a long way with that stuff.....and it smells like CINNAMON! Mmmmm

I know this thread is old but I want to confirm in the pictures L is for lube (regular gun oil) and the G is for grease!? I didn't know the ar-15 needed grease on some parts!

Eezox

I've had great sucess with EEZOX; stuff is amazing, plus can be used on anything something like froglube it is not a petroleum product
Apparently the tour de france bikers use the stuff?

I used these when I first started...however, my cleaning routine is pretty pathetic now. Only gets a good clean and lube if I shoot a match in the rain.

-- I am having a difficult time removing the carbon buildup on the surface ahead of the gas rings of my bolt carrier.

My rifle has roughly 500 rounds to date.

I have tried using a dental pick, wire brush and flat head screw driver and cannot remove it all. Please offer any tricks or advice.

Thank you

Don't worry about removing it all. Scraping and gouging the bolt is not a good idea. If it really bothers you, soak the bolt in a gun solvent overnight and then lube properly afterwards.

plus one wd-40 is a great solvent if you really want but its not lube and not necessary

The difference between carbon build up on the bolt following a couple hundred rounds is the same as thousands of rounds.
It does not get worse.
Wipe it, lube it and run it.
