GP100 impressions

Speed loaders are just fine for this fantastic revolver...unless those few tenths of a second are a deal breaker for you. I love my SS GP100...solid, strong and accurate as H, E, double hockey sticks!

+1 I have the Wolff spring kit in my 4.2" and it's the best trigger I've ever had in a pistol.

Ya sorry someone asked for an elaboration of my comment "difference was night and day" and this ^^ is what I meant.

Canuck44 and I both had tight cylinder throats (he pointed out this issue) and the same kind soul opened them up - I haven't got enough trigger time since the "surgery" to confirm a diff on mine but subjectively I noticed an improvement last match (few weeks back) - and more telling, the limited paper I hit with it. Take that for what's worth, but no harm in measuring yours.

I picked up the 4.2 2 years ago.
I wanted a revolver and a .357 and the price of this one fit the bill perfectly!

I picked up the blued one because I'm not a big fan of shiny guns..... Makes it easier for bad people to see u at night!

But what ended up surprising me was my wife.
She LOVES this gun!
She says its the fact that its simpler to use then the semi autos.
And I guess there is some truth to that.
But I was concerned that she would get scared away from the kick of some spicy .357 mag rounds, but to my surprise she not only didn't mind the kick but she flossed the target full of bullseyes!
I think that nice big frame and those gorgeous hogue grips make it so nice too shoot.

At the end of the day you can't go wrong with a GP100, right out of the box it's a winner.
Price, quality and LCF. (Look cool factor)

Tight throats seem to be a feature of Rugers. You will be happy to know I finally got the F%$#ingg trigger plunger out of my gun and installed the lighter trigger return spring. After a year of trying it all came down to holding my tongue on the right side of myu mouth and repeating foul words. :>).

See you Sunday.

Glad to hear it Bob - I find it's the right combination of foul words sometimes combined with a larger hammer - chapter 14 in "Getting to Yes"

See ya Sunday. I don't think I can bring the GP100 though, looking at your spreadsheet I need one more SAA day. Anyway that's off topic ;)

But the modular design of the GP100 Bob is referring to is a big plus for a lot of things (back on topic)

based on the information here, I bought the Wilson Combat spring kit from Brownells. $15 with postage.

This YouTube gave me a step by step on how to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFLEGrNI5CA

It went smoothly. I installed the lighted trigger spring and the lightest hammer spring. The hammer now feels very light to #### and I am afraid it won't ignite reliably. The way I test a revolver is that it should fire rifle primers in both singe and double action. that way I feel comfortable that i will get 100% ignition.

I have just finished the install. Will now go and load some rifle primers and test.

Note: primers all fired.

Set off rifle primers?? Niiiiice..

I had one of these. GREAT gun. Short barrel, but nothing small about these things. Felt great in the hand.

Sold it to buy something else, I'd get another.

Speaks to poor quality control IMHO. You never hear of that problem with any S&W products.

No it speaks to gang reamers when they do the cylinders. .357 throats are not an issue if you intend to only shoot jacketed bullets. No to good if you decide to shoot lead bullets. Too, it is much easier to enlarge tight throats then it is to mkes oversized throats smaller.

Incidently I tried the lightest hammer spring in my gun and it wouldn't set off Winchester primers consistently so I went with the 10# spring.

Take Care

Bob
