Norinco 1911 any good?

My experience with Norinco 1911's has been they are not a waste of money.

I have owned & still own a few of them. Never had a lemon yet.

My current favs are an early NP29 9mm and a compact [commander] in .45ACP.

In ~ 30+ years of owning 1911's I've probably had in excess of 100 different 1911's. A lot of different USGI 1911A1's, Colt 1911 & 1911A1's, Government models, GI Nat'l Match, Gold Cups, Deltas, Springfield Armoury, Auto Ordnance, etc along the way with the Norcs.

I'm not a huge fan of the current Norc 1911's with the big gloppy sites, extended do-hickeys & forward cut slide serrations.

On all my Norcs first thing I do is change out the extended slide stop [if it comes with one] for a standard one. Usually, install an after-market aluminum adjustable trigger [Videcki, McCormick etc]. And change out the stock/factory grips for something like double diamond checkered hardwood [or Pachmayr wrap-arounds without thumb swells].

All cosmetic, though. Just personal preference.

That's my .05 on it anyway.....

I've had a Norc 1911 Sport for a couple of years and put probably > 1000 rounds through it. It has been great. The trigger on the sport model is nice. It does act up a little (FTFs) when it gets dirty, but I can usually get a couple hundred rounds through it before there are any issues.

I finally caved in & got one! I was so very tempted by CanadaAmmo's pistol & ammo deal... But I scored a deal off the EE last evening... It's a Norinco 1911 Commander, love the shorter barrel look on the 1911 pistols. Looking forward to trying it at the range in a couple weeks!

I bought a Norinco 1911 NP29 in 9mm. Wifey and I did an introductory training class. I fired 6 different 1911's from various manufacturers, and for accurcy and nice trigger, I found my norinco was second only to the instructors personal 1911 (forget what brand). 100% reliable to-date.

At least put a couple of hundred rds. through it, first. You may be surprized how it smooths out.

I like the plain vanilla GI style ones, too. They're more of a "clean slate" to modify to one's tastes, so one isn't stuck with "extras" they don't want, like those awful slide serrations.

How else but a Norinco are you going to buy just a slide/frame/barrel combination for the same price, let alone a whole gun? If you think of them as project guns, they are a great value.

I love my Norc Commander, it was my first 1911..... I bought it as a jamma matic, and it lived up to its rep! Replaced some springs and a few internals and it is nearly as accurate as my Gold Cup National Match. Enjoy it for what it is, play with it until it is what you want and maybe learn more about the 1911 platform.

Was my best $325 investment (on par with my Poly M1A, which was the best $500 I ever spent, apart from the midget circus hookers )

It's not just Ontario that I have to deal with this time around... The seller is in Quebec, so I may be waiting on this for a bit considering the CFO of ON & QC are not known for 'speed'...

M305, CQ311, M93, NP22, 1911 Commander, NP29, all good.

The only one I had an issue with was the NP18 BHP clone, actually a FEG clone, a clone of a clone per say. Shot well enough, but was big, crude, with lots and lots of sharp edges. I swear one could have shaved with the edge of the slide.

I do not think any other 1911 manufacturer or any other legitimate manufacturer reverse engineers (steals) some other company’s design and sells it as their own.

norc 1911's work just as well as any 1911 I have tried (and im a real 1911 guy at heart) for under 400$ you simply cannot go wrong.

I own 3, a Colt, a norc, and an SA. (also a GSG if you want to count that one in)

No reverse engineering needed.
The blueprints are available to anyone wishing to manufacture it.

Norinco simply makes a 1911A1 pistol, the parts of which interchange with the parts in my Colt 1911A1 pistols.

My choice for Best Bang for the Buck, would go to the NP-29 version in 9mm.

I am thinking really hard right now but I sink most norinco products in Canada either have no patent or expired patent?
