Ive always wanted to try one but my 870 was handling my all round shotgun duties very well so there was never any justification. Then, I decided I wanted something I could get to, load and handle a little faster. Something that wont often leave the safe or get used much. So I picked up a DA Grizzly Mag 12.5 from CanAm, the one without the buttstock.

I also picked up a new Archangel stock and fore end set for my 870 and when the Grizz came in I put the parts that WERE on my 870, onto it, and the new parts on my 870.

This is what I ended up with:

Looks pretty awesome IMO. I took it out for a run and it handled cheap 2 3/4 target loads without a single issue. Fed and cycled fine. Only issue I ran into was that the threads on the receiver for the stock bolt are NOT the same as the Remington threads. So without the factory DA bolt youll have to improvise. I found a bolt at my local hardware store that worked fine.

I just need one or two more mags for it. Then ill be all set.

I was about to weld 2 mags together, perhaps now I won't :).

I had been thinking of a Canadian PDW for a while. Something aboot 30" long, mag fed, with enough firepower for bears and goblins, that I could actually take into the woods.
pavmentsurfer 's picture Is what I came up with, although I'm waiting until I get bored with the original stock before buying a Knoxx.

So I heartily concur with the above images, thanks for sharing!

The stock adapter is a Mesa I had laying around. Its got a mill spec buffer tube and im not sure what brand the actual butt stock is... its a good one though. Not a cheap ebay version. Total length when collapsed is 30 inches.

It actually shoots very well and has way less kick than I expected. It would be very good in "tight" environments.

How many rounds did you actually put through it?

After all the stories about these Chinese mag-feds having terrible feeding issues, I don't know that I'd want to trust it for a defense gun.

I agree, test it out. I have some issues with mine with some mags

Ive only run 10 rounds through it at this point and im only running cheap 2.75 target loads. But its run perfect for 2 full mags. I know no one does, but I dont plan to use this thing for defence alot... if it loads a shell and goes bang, once will most certainly be enough.

I knew about the hit or miss functionality of this platform. It was worth the risk and after cycling it a bunch and firing it a few times it seems to be more than smooth enough. This summer it will certainly see alot of use though. Mainly, I just wanted something short that could be loaded very quickly. Slamming in a mag is certainly faster than trying to load 5 rounds from the bottom.

All it needs now are some wheels and fuzzy dice:rolleyes:. To each his own I guess. This is my idea of the perfect shotgun:rockOn:

Didn't say it was my perfect shotgun. It's perfect for its purpose. My 870 tactical is set up perfect for me. This one has a specific purpose and will do that job perfectly. But it's definitely not an all rounder. That's for sure.

This is my idea of the "perfect" shotgun. Though I do want to try one of those magpul stocks... just to see how it feels.

Did you have to sand the lips of the box mags to get them to load the shells properly? I had to sand both of my mags to get them to properly and reliably feed.

do you have any pics of this sanding? never thought the feed lips were the issue on mine, but never know

HDS.

Dominion Arms 12.5" with a cheapo NcStar 120Lumen LED Light/Red Laser combo.

I've shot slugs lots and the cheap light holds up and holds its zero so......till it dies I got some faith and blinding light can be your best friend.

Compare no light to light/laser activated.

It seems that the new DA Grizzlies are shipping with a 6mm metric thread Receiver Stud. They must have changed it up from Imperial without telling anybody. Had to do the same on mine. Depending on the stock you buy, length will vary. 70-75mm works for the kicklite retractable stock. Regardless, the solution is quite literally only pennies (or nickles now I guess).
