Hey there, I have a old P. Webley and sons rifle. I have no idea the year or what it's worth. I need help..
I have a little bit of paper work with it.. All I know is that the maker says that it's a snider-enfield, barrel length is 930, caliber is .500/.45 and its serial number is 1102k.
That's all I know about it,, I need to know the year and the price if I were to sell it. Or even if someone could direct me to someone who has some knowledge about these types of rifles.
I can post pics because I'm on an IPad... PLEASE EMAIL ME AND I CAN SEND THEM....drewman109@hotmail.com

Your post is not easy to answer without photos. You need to download them to a photo hosting site and then add them here. Very unusual caliber for a Snider, if it is a Snider. Can you give your location as well. Dave

Just go here (there are others but this is quick as any, I see this is your first post so we'll help you out here :) ):

click browse/upload and just copy the full link from "message boards and forums" (you'll see it) and paste into your post

Good luck, looking forward to seeing it

Welcome to CGN!

If it is a snider, it should have a breach block that opens sideways on a hinge. The caliber sounds like one of the express cartridges and that does not really fit with a snider. Without photos to be sure of the action plus a more accurate description of the cartridge plus without knowing the overall condition of the gun, it becomes "I have a car with 4 wheels --- what is it worth?"

Here are the pics! Thanks NorthCoastBigBore for the advice.

a sporting gun or officers gun but most of those where in .577 snider back then it was aparts is parts sort of world

if it is a .500-450 its one of the shorter ones possably the .500-450 no.2 musket because unless it has a longer action then the other snider i dont think there is any other one around that will fit

The checkering is obviously added later and is unfortunately attrocious, and there is a putty repair ahead of the lock, these are things that will seriously affect value. My guess is that they would bump this piece into 'shooter'-type prices. The unique chambering will both interest some and scare away others - I myself am in the former camp!

So what would be a reasonable asking price for this? Just from what you can see.. I'll post some more pics tomorrow of it tomorrow

The metal looks to be in excellent condition. Assuming the bore is in likewise shape, I would say at least $700, most likely higher. The Brits seemed to work on the Snider action for sporting rifles for some years. I have been looking for some time at a sporting rifle built on a lengthened Snider action, and it is chambered in .500 X 3" BPE! The action even had an internal striker, so somebody really must have trusted those actions for a while after the service dates! Yours is still in military-style three band and military sight configuration, which is curious, since they would have had to rebarrel it.

what you see is a snider type action but not military snider the .500x3" BPE will most likely not fit in a military action i can just cram a .577-450 case in the breech

Does anyone know what year it might be? Or does anyone know of someone knowledgeable who I can take it to and they can tell me exactly what I have and how much it may be worth?
Thanks again

years are hard to tell once the marking have been taken off and its been restamped i can tell you it looks to be built on a mk 3 action

Just what is so bad about the checkering? Looks quite well done to me.

Looks like they used a cat scratched metal wire window screen as a pattern to me.
Uneven as heck, and half of it looks like the guy doing it was surprised to find a blank spot when he turned the gun over.

Not top quality work.

Metal's in nice shape!

Cheers
