Will the vx-1 or 2 hold up to the recoil of a 30-06??.... I have a savage 111 combo with the bushnell scope, and it never keeps zero. I am shooting 180 gr bullets. I have 400.00 $$ tops to buy another scope,, or would their be a better scope on the market for under 4 bills??

please help,,,,THANKS

Leupold is my choice when I need to have confidence in a hunting rifle scope. 30-06 won't be a problem at all. The differences between the various models is the quality of optics and features such as the adjustment mechanism. I'd prefer clicks over friction, but I have both and in the end once zeroed its all the same.

I recently bought a VX1 with LR reticle in 3-9x40 and its a good entry level hunting scope for under $300.

Make sure your base and rings are not causing the problem.

you will not have a single complaint with a VX2. You can buy a used VX2 for the price of a new VX1, nothing wrong with either but for the same money you want the VX2. Click adjustments and better glass, they are nice.

I think I am going to add iron sights to the rifle first, just to have a backup plan in the field. Then down the road I will add the scope.. I like shooting my marlin this way and I am not that bad of a shot.

I don't think the glass on the VX1 is bad at all, but everyone is different. The VX2 is clearer, brighter and more impressive.
One thing to look for is a very stiff zoom ring, many are rather firm, not so on the VX3's.

In the new series (VX1-2 rather than VXI-II), the VX1 is very capable. In fact, if you go to Leupold's site, you'll see that the feature set between the VX1 and VX2 are nearly identical. The differences are not things you need to worry about.

I have a VX1 on a Winchester Model 70 in 30'06 which shoots stout 180 grain loads. Absolutely no problem. I have also found that the finish on the scope tube is EXCELLENT. It's the only scope I've had which doesn't mark in any way. I also threw some Alumina Flip up cover on. What a great product.

The new VX-1 is superior to the previous generation's VX-II.

There are some that underestimate it because of the reputation of the previous generation's VX-I. Don't fall for that. Leupold started over with this new series because they were getting killed by other brands in the value space. The VX-1 brings it and in a big way. You will not be dissapointed.

In the current generation, the VX1 has click adjustments, too. Many people aparently base their knowledge on the previous generation. It's a complete redesign. The previous knowledge doesnt' apply here.

OP, if considering advice from someone who mentions 'click vs friction' you can immediately discount it as their knowledge is out of date and not relevant.

When those people recommend the VX2 though, keep in mind that the new VX1 is superior to the previous VX-II.

Check out P & D Enterprises - give Phil a call at the store or PM him thru CGN,, they have some SMOKIN deals on demo Leupolds. As soon as I heard about it, I called and got a VX3 with BC reticle and a friend bought a VX2 6-18 for one of his new varmint rifles after I mentioned to him about the clearance.

My vote is try to find a good used VX II. Life time warranty on a Leupold is a no brainier for me. I have both I's II's and III's and to be honest for 90 percent of what I do I can't tell the difference. I will give the II's an upper hand on the I's which is why I'd go for a good used one.

And of course the new 1 is superior to the old ii that you're talking about.

VX1 is comparable to VXIII....seriously?

Absolutely. The 2013 VX1 has the same optics coatings and finger-click adjustments that my 2008 VX-III has. The VX2 and VX3 are above and beyond even that.

IMO Leupold dropped the ball on the model numbering, and guys still think their VX-III is superior to a 2013 VX1 or VX2, but it isn't.

The old Vari-X models you see in the EE are overpriced and not even is the same ballpark.

That's right. According to leupold's website, they still sell the vari-x II. Their website says that they have only changed the asthetics of the scope tube and that the glass and internals are identical to the old vari-x II "which made the company what it is"

It's now sold as the bottom barrel Leupold Rifleman.

Did they? The confusion seems to have people thinking they need to spend way more money than they need to.
