Stevens 200 or Savage Axis

I was looking for a stevens 200 in .223 when I got my axis in .223, in stock form I was not disapointed.
like others have said there is no after market for it, I now have a stevens based rifle in .223 and sold the axis.
as a hunting/gopher/coyote gun you really can't go wrong either way, if you are a target shooter and want something to upgrade get the stevens.

The main difference is the recoil lug on the axis is part of the stock, on the stevens (like most savages) it's sandwiched between the receiver and barrel nut. This is why stevens' are more desirable because they are more compatible with regular savage parts.

The axis IMHO, although an accurate, inexpensive option just isn't up to speed with aftermarket parts and interchangeability of factory parts.

I'm sure guys like Mystic Precision will fill the void soon though.

I went out today for Coyotes, and got skunked, but I was able to put this group down. My first 3 shots were the ones closest to the bull, and I think I rushed the next 3 without letting the barrel cool.

2.226-2.244=2.042 inches
2.042 inches / 2.5 = 0.82MOA
Granted its wearing a 8-24 bushnell 4200 and I've done some work to it (stiffened forend, bedded action, filled buttstock with mortar, reduced trigger pull with spring mod). But that's prone in the snow off a bipod.

The axis is great (1 MOA) out of the box with hand loads.

the trigger on the axis is the main drawback if your planning any sort of build down the road.......you can tweak it but it will never compare to the likes of a drop in timney or rifle basix...............

you can get a rifle basix drop in trigger, also an accu trigger can be fitted into the axis.

Lets call a spade a spade, it's not a target gun, it's a $350 beater. It shoots great. Stevens 200 is great value as well. The bottom line is how much do you want to spend on it or tinker with it, for $100 bucks more you can get the accutrigger on one of savages other offerings. I'm a cheap bastard, and I love tinkering.

Never played with a axis, but I own a stevens and so far Im liking it. I havent even put in the RB trigger in it yet that I got sitting here or bought a boyds stock for it.
