I recently received my PAL which permits Non/restricted & Restricted for Possession and Non/restricted & Restricted for Acquisition. These conditions are printed on the back of the PAL card.

I noted with the letter I received the PAL with (plastic card was attached to this letter), the bottom of the letter lists your "licence conditions" (there are no special conditions with mine).

The letter states I must detach the portion of the letter stating "licence conditions" and carry it with my PAL. It states you must "be able to provide both your PAL licence and licence conditions when requested by a peace officer or other authority".

Why in god's name wouldn't the conditions be printed on the PAL. Why do we need to carry the piece of paper as well?

Mentioned this to two current PAL holders and they thought this was new until they went home and re-checked the letter that came with their PAL and noticed that the same requirement was on their letter.

Anyone know why the need to carry the piece of paper with your PAL?

Because it is a comdition of the PAL and required to produce if asked by an Officer (restrictions are only listed on this part of the PAL) I'm sure it was couvered in the safety course.. Mine was.

I had called the CFO and inquired about this and was told that I have no conditions on mine and don't need to worry about it.... but they're nuts so, what ever I dont carry it, its a damn piece of paper how is it supposed to last in my wallet.

I bet a lot of people don't carry it. Strictly speaking though, failure to produce the conditions means you are in violation, correct?

I keep it and copy's of registration(s) LTT's etc in my range bag separate from Gun which is locked ...

It is required to be available if asked for.
Don't know CFO was talking about

My PAL says "standard conditions are attached to this licence"
I don't need some useless piece of paper that also tells me I have no special conditions...
That's the way I see it, I don't plan to carry it anytime soon.

I always figured if you don't have any extra conditions on your license, why bother carrying the piece of paper. But that's just me.

I have a few people I know in the RCMP. Heck one even vouched for my rpal. I think we tend to know more about gun law than them half the time.

No one I spoke to has ever mentioned this but I am sure they could be a stickler for it.

In the end I have no restriction or conditions and heck I lost that letter a while a go!

I going to live on the wild side and not carry it with me unless someone can point to a case were someone got in big doo doo.

Then I guess it is a call to the Marimachi der bye.

Yes you are legally required to carry the little piece of paper with your PAL.
I'm sure most people don't, but thats not what you asked. It doesn't cost you a cent to fold it up and tuck it in your wallet.

If you still know where yours is. :)

Interesting, thanks.

Bottom line is that not having the piece of paper with you is exactly the same as not having your PAL with you.

Ive never heard of this until now, If mine has such a paper that came with it Ive never carried it. In all the years Ive had a pal Ive never been asked to show it while out hunting, all they want to see is my tag for whatever I'm hunting at that time.

I will try and remember to phone the BC CFO's office tomorrow and ask if I need to carry it if I have no conditions.

I am sure anyone pulling me over and running my DL or RPAL would have an instant display of all conditions and restrictions on me.

It just seems redundant but hey if that is what needs to be done I will laminate it and keep it with the RPAL and the Million other certs I have to carry.

As I say, the letter your PAL comes with is very clear,

"Please detach the licence conditions printed below and keep them with your licence at all times. If requested by a peace officer or other authority, you must be able to provide both your licence and the licence conditions"

This is despite the fact, as another poster noted, the front of the PAL clearly states (at least in my case) 'standard conditions are attached to this licence'.

It appears the standard conditions that are attached to this licence are those conditions printed on the letter. You must carry them with you. I'm guessing that's what the phrase "attached to this licence" actually means. I suppose many misinterpret it to mean they don't have to carry the licence conditions with them.

Since I don't have the doc any more I will see what the CFOs office says and if they recommend I have it I will ask for another copy and keep it with the RPAL. I just think we may have to kill a few trees in the process as almost no one I knows carries it.

Let us know what they tell you.

If your licence is subject to any special conditions then those conditions will be stated on the separate page, and you need to carry the page that lists those conditions as they form part of the licence. For example, special conditions may state that a minor's licence is only valid when supervised by an adult.

If your licence card states "standard conditions are attached" then the special conditions page is blank because there are no special conditions that apply. You do not need to carry a blank piece of paper with you that says nothing.

That is my thinking also but I will try and get a hold of someone at the CFO tomorrow to verify and report back.
