Hi all,

Looking, at least theoretically for now, for a scope to compliment my Adcor BEAR. I like the idea of the versatility this scope offers and I'm not especially concerned about weight/size. Down the road, I'd like a more compact AR, maybe even PDW sized, for which I would look at an Aimpoint/EOtech.

I've searched the forums and haven't found much. I've seen people mention it, but not many thoughts based on actual use.

Wolverine has, what I think is, a good deal with the PEPR mount for $750. Not much more than a comparable red dot, but much more versatile I would think...

As always, thanks in advance for your help and collective wisdom.

Nothing wrong with a 1x4 but you would be better off with a leupold. The Burris I put on my AR was ok but would not hold zero after about 750 rounds. it now has a leupold and I am was much happier with it. to bad it was sold when I moved back to the land of beaver and maple syrup.

The MTAC is almost the scope of choice for 3 Gunners in the US. It gets good reviews online and there haven't been any real negative points about it.

It is the updated TAC-30, and is pretty good for a cost effective scope.

Compare it to Leupolds or others, and I think they can stack up to lower end models.

Personally Id not bother with the Fast Fire as it adds weight.

The reticle is made for 3 Gunning or CQB style shooting.

Its a step above the Hilux CMR, but I think around the same tier as the Nikon AR scope. Possibly also look at the Vortex PST 1-4 for aa few bucks more.

Personally Id look at the MTAC. Im thinking of it myself if I decid enot to go with another red dot.

Lol, yes it is good.

Look at the Brian Enos forum for 3 Gunners, it has a good write up there as well as on AR15.com.

Need to qualify, its the choice for BUDGET 3 Gunners or those starting out.

Just buy it.
I would tend to agree with you.
I know several 3 gunners who have no sponsorship but run much higher priced optics.
I'm still looking for what i'm going to use and I'm not really sure at what price point I should be looking at.

I'm trying to wait it out till the new Sightron Tac 1-7x24 comes out.

Get it. It's not the best optic for precision shooting since the centre dot is rather large. But this makes it perfect for closer ranges.

I have one on my AR and use it for 3-gun. I've also used the vortex 1-4 and like the MTAC more. I got mine for $520 on eBay with a seller willing to ship here (with the PEPR)

The next jump that's good enough for the price increase would be the swarovsky 1-6. That is one impressive piece of glass...

I've never used the mtac but with it having a 1x setting I don't know how much more value you are getting having a red dot sight on the rifle as well. The red dot will be faster and have a bigger fov but I don't know if you'll notice a huge difference from using just the 1x. Like rivet said it's a good deal and you can always use the fast fire on something else. Personally I wouldn't bother with a red dot sight on a gun that already has a 1x scope.

The benefit to having a non-magnified red dot especially on a tilted mount is that you can keep your MTAC on 4x and roll the gun to the side to shoot at closer targets. Much faster than switching to 1x, even if you have a throw lever like I do.

fyi - i run guns has the best price on it anywhere... i was going to buy this exact setup but i had already bought the birris pepr with qd mounts so i opted to just buy the leupold vx-r

if i would have planned better, i would have just bought the combo, however im extremely happy with my current setup.
ill be getting the burris package for another build eventually.

also, i think that i saw this package at p&d for $600 ish.
