The mag on the Trophy Hunter is a lot better, as is the stock and trigger. IMO, good choice.
WHAT?! The Trophy Hunter International (111) has EXACTLY the same Magazine as the savage Axis. Same plastic release, everything. If you buy a replacement magazine for it, you buy an Axis magazine. I suspect that the non-international version has the better classic magazine since it uses the old style stock and bolt release.
I purchased this rifle (11 International Trophy Hunter XP) in 7mm-08 for my wife.
I have some advice for you:
At a minimum remove the scope and tighten the rings down properly and level it properly if you have the hardware to do so. The one that we got was so unlevel, you could do better by eye balling it if you had to.
I highly recommend replacing those bases and rings. The rings are PURE garbage. The bases on mine were not even. They are weaver style but not weaver brand. I found that the tops of the bases were canted about 4 degrees off from each other. Replacing them with some Burris bases made everything level.
I highly recommend some LOW burris zee rings. They bring the scope to a more appropriate height.
The rifle shoots reasonbly well and, having owned a couple of Axis rifles, this one is superior.
Check out the turret covers, mine were cross threaded from the factory and the scope had to be replaced.
Lastly, did you say that you had 40 rounds and were going coyote hunting to
test it out. Let e tell you something, that bore sighting is useless. You need to actually zero the rifle.
