590a1 or 870p. Help me choose my next one

I have the 590A1 and love it, never used the other one but when i did the reseach i came up with simlar stuff...that it was better. Get the 590A1 you wont be dissapointed!

Much prob has to do with the name alone. Ask an old woman if she has ever heard of Remington, and she will reply 'of course'. Then ask the same about Mossberg.

... but she may be referring to a sewing machine or an electric shaver

I love Ithacas...they're my favourite. But I have to admit, the ability to chuck rounds into the side port can come in handy in a match.

You actually can withe Ithaca, it might a little slower though.

nah, I'm pretty sure you cannot get any shells into the side port on an Ithaca ;)

I have seen pics of a couple with a port cut into the receiver. One was a BPS though.

Well,no side port loading, but you can port load a ithaca 37, with the slide back you push the first rd up against the lifter in to the chamber, push slide forward and load the rest, remembering to keep your finger off the trigger on the older ithacas as you rack the slide forward.lol

Yesem. Thick shafts and corn cob ends kinda do it for me.

You're over sharing again, inside voice, outside voice.

They're both good, the Mossberg is just a little better, a shell lifter that stays up when loading, [ ask why some guy's cut a slot in the lifter on the 870's.] ,the safety, easy, forward is fire, good for left or right handed shooting, and by that I mean shooting weak or off handed around barriers. Remmington guys will replace their safety with a jumbo head one,if it's so good ,why?

I think that older 870's have smoother actions then any mossberg ,but I've never noticed while shooting either one.

99.8% of those guys shoot their 870s less than 250 times a year, believe optics are needed on a shotgun and bolt more other useless accessories to them than one could even think possible.

I just bought another used 870 that had a jumbo safety on it...note I said "had"...that safety is for sale now! LOL!

I own two Mossberg 500 shotguns, and one Remington 870 tactical. I have shot the 590 a fair bit as well. Honestly they are right on par with each other in terms of reliability and function, just slightlly different ergonomics. Buy whichever one turns your crank, you won't go wrong. In fact, buy one of each.

Only thing I didn't like about the 590 was the forearm setup. Rem 870 with the solid action bars there wasn't any twisting feeling. The Mossberg has pivoting action bars so it found I twisted the bars more often and found more slop.

I agree for the 15'' for the 590. As for the 12-14 for the 870s; who, would you say makes the best barrels...available in Canada?

Dlask is the best quality, but really heavy. Remington is similar to Dlask in quality but the chamber was a little rougher on mine than the Dlask. The chinese barrels are actually just fine if you are willing to polish the chamber, which I do to any new barrel anyways. The China barrels are also the thinnest.

I have no experience with the NEA barrels but do a search and form your own opinions before buying....

Probably Dlask. Don't own any (yet) but I've read lots of good things. bit pricey though

One good thing about Dlask...they mark the barrel length on their short barrels.(someone correct me if this is wrong)

That can come in handy in proving they are factory barrels. Plus which they are Canadian made.

Now, AFAIK they are thicker than stock and can require some fitting to fit up with the forend etc.
