Sylvester road cleanup!

Wow great job guys. If I am off work next time will make it. People are nucking pigs.

thats a little closed minded to say isnt it? Like profiling anyone who has a shotgun and an sks is ignorant. which is not the case. Sure there are some people that are leaving a mess but generalizing it to a anything is not right. IMO...

Clearly you fail to understand words like " many young shooters up there lack ". I didn't say all, I said many. And it's not profiling when you go up there numerous times like I have over the years and the majority of people you see up there shooting 12ga and 7.62x39 surplus crap are well under 30. Then I would say I'm offering a fair factual point of view.

But then again, the proof is in the picture I took a couple weeks ago. Don't need to be a genius to figure out who the majority of the polluters are.

Well, without taking sides, its kind of true....My first visit to this area and it was littered everywhere with 12g shotgun cases and spent 7.62x 39....Once you've spent 5 hours cleaning up this crap then your opinion is that of Mildcustom.....and I have a 12g and an SKS..

If your of a young age group and take offence to my statements then don't blame me. Blame those that are ruining it for others like you.
 
im 28 and kind of do take offense. ive always cleaned up my shells, casings when i have gone up there shooting, albeit not for a few years though. I can recognize the problem and apreciate the efforts you have taken with clean up. i just dont think its fair to say its only one group of people. In my times up there i have seen many an older gentleman leaving his casings and shells etc all over the place. thats all. Working on the problem, educating the people, reminding people you see doing it, is a much better thing than pointing fingers.
 
You have to educate and police grow men or women of adult age?

Last time I checked mother taught me since I was only a couple feet tall to not litter.

Sorry but your not going to win here with me. I have never in the many years going up there ever seen someone over 30 leave there there trash up there. It's always the younger crowd. As the majority (90%) of the shooters up there are in the under 30 category.
 
im not trying to "win" anythign with you here. Im just saying its not fair to say its only ONE group of people. its kind of closed minded and ignorant. In the same way its kinda closed minded and ignorant of people to leave their trash up there.

Sadly, yes though. Grown men and women often DO need to be educated and/or policed, which sucks. Simply taking a second to remind people sometimes if you see them doin it can help. letting them know if it continues then they wont be able to go there and shoot. Theres different ways to go about things than simply placing the blame on people.

Basically im saying, Cleaning up is GOOD. Lumping together offenders is BAD. Educating and working on preventative measures is BEST.

ps: please dont take this as me trying to get into some kind of E-arguement with you, as that is not my intent.
 
I believe when people see a bunch of garbage laying around it makes others complacent about picking up there own garbage. Last weekend at another shooting spot I was shooting alongside a 40 something father with his son. I was picking up my shells and the father commented on how I was doing good. I replied how disgusting it gets with discarded shells. Next thing I knew they were driving away leaving the 100 shells they had shot on the ground. I was dumbfounded at this.

Also one go my regular shooting friends always tells me how funny he finds me picking up all of our shells. And this is a guy who wouldn't leave any garbage behind camping or hiking or whatever.

If you see crap everywhere you're more likely to do the same. So set a good example and slowly and hopefully the majority of people will follow.

Up another road near Mission yesterday, all the usual garbage etc. plus 3 live 7.62x39 rounds and some live 22lr. I wish I knew how to get through to people. Also drove past a huge load of drywall junk! Found a whole car I reported too.

Other wise a beautiful day with beautiful scenery.

ya it is sad a lot of people dont apreciate the liberties thbey have with access to places like these. Same sort of thing has been happening out at stave lake for years. people dumping cars, garbage etc. its the good people that take the time out of their lives to do cleanups of these areas on their own time that keep them available to people now. thank god there are people like that. educate educate educate. spread the word that this kinda thing cant keep happening. otherwise we will lose these priveledges. beautiful british columbia. thats the slogan. hopefully we can keep it this way. I know for one i dont want to see places like sylvester and stave etc closed down due to the ignorance of FEW, ruining it for the rest of us.

Pardon my ignorance..but what is a washout ?..did they cut a big ditch across the road ? pictures ?
 
They had cut a culvert across the road, it has since been filled. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank tommy for leading the cleanup. Wish i was there, and better late than never!
