Interesting NEW! Remington SPS Tactical models...

I'm surprised no one has called BS on this yet. 1 MOA would be impressive - if true. 1"? Come on. This claim begs for clarification and validation.

Gentlemen

If I my offer some thoughts.......

AR's in 308 are doing very well shooting the old style service rifle out to 600 yards/metres with 16.1" barrels.

Further, I know of those with training, shooting the KAC SR-25 (again an AR in 308 with a 16.1" barrel) to 800M and making reliable, effective first shot hits on steel.

I am going by memory, but I believe they were using Black hills 175ish grain and Federal Gold metal match ammo of the 168 ish grain variety

It is my understanding there after, you are making the transition from Sonic, to subsonic flight, and at that point it become more a matter of shooter skill than gear.

Now keep in mind this is a gas gun with a whole lot of moving parts, and a loss of some of the gas (and velocity) to operate the action.

With that in mind, I see no reason, as long as the action it bedded, and the barrel is properly free floated, why similar results could not be had/duplicated with a bolt action Rifle with a 16.5" barrel. I understand these short SPS's come with a 1-10 twist, so you my have success with the 175 grain SMK style bullets as well.

I got to be honest, and I am not crazy about that Houge stock. They are comfortable, and have an aluminum bedding block, but I have previously found that one need to be really aware of how much forward pressure one is putting on the stock/bipod as it was pretty easy to have the fore-end contact the barrel.

I have some ideas on how to proceed with a build, but for those that are curious, this is what it looks like out of the box:

^^^ The Ghillie Green Hogue SPS stock I own doesn't have aluminum bedding blocks. Good looking rifle none the same.

Hogue offers aftermarket stocks with a full aluminum bedding block but factory supplied stocks only have aluminum pillars. The full AL stocks are $300 US though, there are far better options for that kind of money.

Just found this, different rifle but scroll down and check out the velocities. Some were over max loads but still.

I'm currently putting a TAC21 chassis together using a 16.5'' barrel in 308, just waiting on the action to show and I can get shooting. I'm hoping this combo will get me out to 600m effectively using 175gr projectiles. Has anyone worked up a 308 load for these? Lots of load info for the 16.5'' rugers in 308, but no real info on the Remington's. Should be a slick little tacticool shooter, short, light'ish, black, liberals will hate it, just right for me.
