Is this normal, or am I just lucky?

I just opened a bag of 50 unprimed Remington cases and I picked out seven of them that had the flash holes way off center in the primer pocket. Five more had some sort of ring around the flash hole in which most of the brass was missing, (looks like the flash hole is a hole in the bottom of a crater). I have no experience w/ new brass as I have been using cases from factory loaded ammunition and I have not noticed these issues before.

It looks like there may have been some problem with the machine that made the cases. Or did I just get some Friday brass?

Can I use the cases w/ the off center flash holes and expect any kind of consistency? How about those w/ the crater?

Here are a couple of pics;

Thanks in advance for your advice.

De-priming could be an issue.

De-burring the inside of the flash holes would (might) help the decapping pin find the flash hole. Put a 3/16” drill bit in your electric drill and clamp the drill in a vice. Put each case over the drill and touch the INSIDE of each flash hole with the drill. The flash holes are punched and there is flash material around the flash hole, on the inside of the case. By touching it on the drill bit you will feel it chatter as it hits the flash and then run smooth as it cleans up. When you look inside you will now see a slight bevel around the flash hole. Only a light touch is required.

Those cases will most likely be fine, but my OCD would make me call the vendor and ask if it would be possible to return them and swap. Or maybe call the manufacturer anyway and tell/show them what you have, even if you intend to keep them. Most likely they would appreciate it and ask for the lot number.

A little courtesy shown to the manufacturer will most likely be appreciated, and possibly rewarded with some new brass.

If your shooting to the left, put the flash hole closer to the right.
Vice versa and the same for shooting hi and low.
Put the flash hole in the opposite direction.
Well, that's what I was told.........................

I will be calling them, tried today but I was a little late. I'll see what they have to say about it tomorrow.

Have you seen this before? I find the crater problem even more interesting...

THIS. I've found component manufacturers to be really accommodating with that kind of thing. Send remington the pictures you just posted, and you'll probably end up with a new bag of brass.

Was cleaning some old Imperial 270win cases and put aside several cases with the flash hole off center: I first thought, (because the brass was probably shot over 30 years ago and left) that corrosion had enlarged a lop sided hole, but closer inspection suggested otherwise.

Decapping might be a nuissance. About five years ago I bought some Remington brass, and they were all fine aside from one that had a crack along the neck. I didn't bother over one case, but if there were many, contacting Remington about the problem would have been prudent.

I'm with Cleftwynd. IMO these cases should have never left the mfg plant and leaves me with a horrible doubt on their quality control. I can hear decapping pins snap just by looking at the pics. Can you share the mfg name?

So I just got off the phone with Gravelle Group, (I think) and they are sending me a new bag of brass as replacement and I get to keep the one I have. Could have been worse I guess! So I asked the girl how this can happen, or if they see it often. She said not too often, but once in a while they get a bag that may have been made "at the end of a run." I said, "so it's Friday brass!?" She didn't respond.

If you know you have the problem, the Norinco yellow box stuff definitely does, just back off your sizing/decapping die a half turn, so that it's loose in the press. That, along with the slop in the shell holder head will allow the decapping pin to find the hole without breakin off.

It's a pain in the butt though.

Set the offendors aside for individual attention. They will have to be resized later.
