Ruger SR9

I bought a black SR9 in January and have been very happy with it.

So far over 500 rounds through it with no problems.

I did notice the price increased with the next shipment in Feb, but I guess it doesn't matter what they used to cost if you can't get one.

Regards

No stainless ones available anywhere. Saw one @ a dealer but it was the old one with the round mag release. Most sites showing their old pricing because they are out of stock and ha vent been updated.

Im thinking about switching from my glock to a sr9 but cant find it in my heart to give up my glock. I need some points to make me switch!

Well, with the profit you make selling a glock and buying a SR9, you could buy yourself a fair bit of ammo. I have shot a glock and own the SR9. Both are currently more accurate than I am. For me, who only shoots causally at the range, I don't need to spend an extra $300 on a gun with features I will never need, or "superior quality" that I will never come close to abusing.

You make a really good point but its hard to part with your first gun

i was in wholesale sports today in langley, i asked about the SR9, they told me that they dont expect to see any ruger handguns( SR9) for at least a year.... minimum!!! I hope they are wrong!!!

Although I have said many time Ruger SR-9 is a very nice gun for the money but because I have both, I sold the SR-9 and keep two g17s. The flame of SR-9 is much nicer but the workmanship wasn't quite there. Glock has way better machining both on the slide and barrel.

So a Glock is better...cause its "prettier"? I have not seen any machine marks on my SR9 or poorly done ANYTHING...and at least its not like your looking at/holding a 2x4 gun!!! :p And the other "pro" to a Glock is that you can take it down (slightly) faster? Just so you know...if your gun broke down so badly that it had to be broken down in a one on one shoot out to be fixed/cleaned...your prob not gonna make it. And as far as I know...there is no speed striping/cleaning guns competitions...

---
The rumor that a Glock NEVER has to be cleaned is false they can be made to fail quite easily...sure they can go for a while without cleaning (just like MANY other modern made "combat" handguns) but wear and tear will happen much faster and the chances of something going wrong increases the more you shoot it "dirty". Only idiots do not take care of what they own...let alone if your someone who has to rely on it for personal protection. So get the Rambo fantasy out of your heads of you raiding a police station for 1000s of rounds and shooting invading armies all while laying in the mud and never having to clean your Glock cause "she likes to run dirty". :)
---

The main reason the SR9 isn't as "good" as the Glock...is because it doesn't have 30+ years of kool-aid drinkers behind it and 1000s of cheap stupid #### you can strap to it to make your gun fighter dreaming even cooler!!! There are holsters, there are easy to get magazines, there is a trigger bar/disconnector mods out for this gun...all you'd ever need.

The pros of an SR9 are...its quite a bit cheaper, it has better factory sights (adjustable too so +1), and adjust the grip size for a more "custom" fit as we do not all have the same size hands, ambidextrous magazine release, has a manual safety...some people like them, some do not...its out of the way and small enough that its out of the way if you do not like them, has a magazine disconnect that is also VERY easy to remove (again some like that it and some don't).

Its a very complete and solid package for a GREAT price...why you cannot find one anywhere...and will be a great gun for anyone to have and more then likely shoot better then 99% of you can.

Take a macro pic of the outside of your barrel....I'd love to see one that was cut smooth. The barrel is the only piece of these guns that is machined, everything else is cast or stamped.
Should look like these with lines all in the middle from dull tools.

Yup, and those machining marks really impair the function.

I'm looking at my wife's SR9 and yes, there is evidence of those marks. Ruger could easily have removed them with a little more shop time, and added the cost to the customer. They aren't the only manufacturer to save on production costs by not polishing parts that are not in open view.

Strange how this glaring omission for detailed polishing never gets mentioned in the reviews I've read on the SR9, SR40 and SR45, including the current articles in "Guns & Ammo" and "Combat handguns" on the latter - "On the range the SR45 performed flawlessly with "0" malfunctions using a mix of hollowpoints and ball ammunition. Accuracy at 25 yards from a rest was very good and consistent. Recoil was extremely manageable and pleasant. The Ruger SR45 is a solidly built, tough-as-nails handgun with many safety features. It's slim profile make it ideal for those who want a full sized gun for concealed carry."

The same could be said for the other SR models; in fact it is.

In the same issue, there are pics of two other pistols (both more expensive than the Ruger) broken down to basic components, one American, one European and Gasp!, guess what? Machining marks NOT polished away on the barrel !!! Encroyable!

This could be said of virtually ALL of the military arms I've handled and shot over the years, their function and reliability not impaired by this. If you want 'pretty', you gotta pay for it.

Does your barrel still work? Yes it does...

Would you rather pay an extra $200 to have those marks gone...even tho it improve nothing other then its "looks"?

What about milsurps...people pay $100s-$,1000s for them and they are covered in machining marks, usually much much worse then the above picture.

My Ruger SR9 in OD green cost me in total $610 2 years and is a fine gun...but *gasp* has slight machining marks that in no way effect its performance.

My HK45 cost me over $1,500...and for that price, its flawless...putting it side by side with a Glock (I make sure to wash my hands after handling a Glock to remove the ###!!!) they are not comparable. Its easy to tell why/how the HK costs more. Putting the SR9 beside the Glock (again eww!!!) its hard for me to know why the simpler and less parts design of the Glock and poor egros that come with it...that lacks many feature that the SR9 comes standard with....is more money the it?

Bottom line...99.9% of modern made guns will work just fine anyways...most of you are not going to war, your not hunting with your pistol, its used in highly controlled environments and is babied and normally cleaned after each use.

Well its a commercial firearm, not military, so some higher QC is expected. I bought into the reviews as well, not guns and ammo or combat handguns as they are not reliable at all...paid advertising rags never say anything negative about guns. Its an OK gun, its not a killer deal or high quality gun, it goes bang for the most part but there have been and continue to be QC issues with these and all Ruger firearms it seems. I'm just giving facts, I'm trying to like this gun, but its hard with all the little issues adding up. It is a budget gun, and really should be compared to high points and FNC's or whatever those us made glock clones are called.....

I've had my SR9 for almost 2 years now and no complaints, shoots accurate , functions well, just comfortable to shoot. Paid about $550 new and worth every cent. Good gun for the money. Wholesale Sports usually stocks it.

I love when people go to the touble of taking pics to prove their point and it turns out to be an ultimate FAIL. LOL

Well at least I know what poor machining he was referring to now! I was having a hard time figuring out the complaint.
