How Many Rounds?

When I make my annual three week trip for whitetail (Alberta and Saskatchewan combined) I take two rifles and have 25 rounds per rifle. When the hunt is over usually I have 50 or 49 rounds left, and once I had 48 rounds. The left over rounds are burned up in the winter at the rifle range...................I love reloading! Last year I came back with 49 rounds. Shot this buck in Alberta and passed-up many in Saskatchewan.

Nice deer! It's an amazing photo; I can't imagine anyone looking happier.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best. If bears are part of the scene where you are headed plan for them. Ammo is cheap and easy to pack when you consider the overall cost of the hunt. Good luck.

50 rounds per gun in camp, in the bush whatever the gun holds plus a box of 20 - it is part of my survival gear as well as hunting gear.
It is better to be looking at it than looking for it and it doesn't go bad.

I carry 15 rounds on me in the bush ... definatly 50 on a trip. You dont know if your going to get lost , bump your gun ,lose ammo or end up in a survival scenario. If in doubt ... Pack more !

great post , great photo , congrats !

A couple of boxes should do it. Make sure they are the same lot # as you sighted in with. Take some with you on the hunt and leave the rest at camp. Don't carry loose cartridges in a pocket they make enough noise to wake the dead. It doesn't hurt to fire some rounds in a safe area to make sure the scope hasn't shifted in transit either. Happy hunting.

I typically go on a week long hunt with 20 rounds, more if it is a multi-species hunt.

It's nice to be able to fire a few shots in the field if things are slow, and see if your field range estimation and field shooting techniques are as good as you think the are :).

"Blessed is a man who's quiver is full" - Psalm 127:3-5

although, I think the bible is referring to children, not munitions...

I always take 10 in the bush, and have 60 - 70 back at camp; It doesn't take up much space.

I get carried away with reloading so last year I must have had 100rds. Mind you I always sight in the rifle the first day and then if we are successfull we'll go to the range and play buck a shot/target. I'm usually broke and out of ammo by the end..

When do you become a better shot than the old man, I've been waiting awhile now..

Hey look at that 100 posts.. yay!

I usually take two boxes (40 rnds) to deer camp for a week of pushing bush. I then carry 2 four round mags and an extra sleeve of 10 rounds for a day of hunting. During the blackpowder season from a tree stand I only ever carry 2 reloads for my muzzleloader.

I bring lots. two years back I took a calf moose up in Prince george 3 shots in the mag, first one through the lungs, -wasnt sure if i had hit it; took two more shots and one of those two broke its spine as it was running, it hit the ground and then got up and started trying to run again.

Here I am thinking I have just wounded a calf moose, I have no more ammo, and its going to run away and never be seen again. Finally it fell, I had no idea they were so tough.

I then realized I had no more shots, with the cow moose being pretty aggressive as im trying to gut the calf.

Now I always carry lots.

Full box of 20 in the pack, 4 in the extra clip, 6 in the leather belt wallet and 5 in the gun. Never needed more than 2 but like to have the rest in case I get lost

i take a pack but aslong as i have 3 spare after my 3+1 Mag capacity.. Have learnt the hard way but was lucky to have a hunting partner along side me with a full mag of .300 wm to eventually put the big sambar stag down as i had used up all my ammo i took.. not doin that again but have also learnt that if 3 shots dont connect- Go Home!
