S&W M&P Compact

Received it yesterday. Man this thing is small. Surprisingly heavy though.

Gonna take it to the range today, see what it shoots like.

Not my pic, but found this:

From experience with both a G26 and now an M&P .40c, the Glock sub-compacts are a bit smaller in length and slightly lighter.

Awesome, thanks for posting. I'm guessing the compliant barrels will stick out approx the same amount. Maybe just a tad less on the M&P. What's the grip feel like without the extension on the mag?

I found the barrel sticking out of the Glock 26 was a lot more pronounced than it is on the M&P compact. It seems to be a bit more subtle on the M&P. On both, when firing a flush mag your pinky finger will be looking for a place to go. If feels odd at first, but you kind of get used to it. The magazine extension makes it a bit more comfortable to grip.

Got the .40c to the range today. Wasn't the first time, but the first time with the new barrel. Still lots of fun to shoot, but very snappy. Definitely can't shoot it all day. Takes a bit more concentration to shoot as well as I can shoot a Glock though, especially since the trigger reset is a bit harder to find.

Overall tons of fun to shoot though.

Well finally got mine as well... Sweet little gun indeed.

Already installed the Apex competition kit and removed the magazine disconnect.

Next to the range.

The barrel sticks out only 16.2 mm (0.63 in) from the frame on the 40c.
I have a Glock 26 which I ordered from Questar,it has a similar Storm Lake barrel like yours. Mine sticks out about the same length, 0.5 inches approx. I eventually got sick of looking at it so I took the barrel to a gunsmith in Regina and had the end of it threaded 1/2x28. It was alot cheaper than buying a totally new threaded Storm Lake barrel, which at the time was like 225-250.

I love it threaded, it makes it seem that the barrel is sticking out the end for a reason now.

Forgot to add, I'm not a Glock fanboy, I also own a M&P 40 full size, which I love more than my Glock26. Interestingly enough,I also own a 40 to 9mm conversion barrel for my M&P, guess who made it.....Storm Lake. It works great and I have never had a FTE,no problems whatsoever. It was ordered a few years back so I never waited very long.

Where did you get the Apex Comp Kit from, Brownell's'? Did you install all the pieces or just some of them? I've read that just installing the Apex USB makes a big difference.

Got the kit from Speed shooter specialties. I installed all the pieces except the trigger spring as it really made the trigger way too light.

It makes a night and day difference with this kit on. The trigger aside the obvious reduction in weight, loses all the grittiness and it is totally smooth. Similar to the Walther PPQ trigger.

Had the same set up on my FS M&P with the addition of the aluminum trigger itself.

Good to know, lots of guys said not to install the trigger spring also. I thought that these guys don't ship to Canada. What was the shipping cost like?

They do not ship to Canada, but I have an US address. The shipping is about 10 bucks.

Finally took the gun to the range. Enjoyed around 300 flawless rounds. With the first few mags, the brass was hitting my face, but then it got better. Accuracy wise, I can't complain. Just like the full size M&P. What surprised me the most, was how tame the recoil is on it. I was expecting a bit more, being a compact and all, but it was just like the full size and way less than the Glock 26. Actually after shooting the M&P, the glock felt more like a .40. Big difference.

The storm lake barrel does not stick out as much as the glock... Then again, the slide is about 5-7 millimeter longer hence the visual difference.

Love this gun. Compared to the glock, I really have to say, it has few advantages, as the ergonomics (excellent), sights, low recoil....

I am really glad I bought it.

Awesome!

How is the trigger reset with the Apex kit? You kept the stock trigger spring though?

Very smooth and light. I kept the trigger spring as the spring included in the kit, does make the trigger weight too light. Right now it stands at around 4 pounds, with the Apex trigger spring it was close to 2.5 pounds.

The grittiness is totally gone, and the pre-travel is shorter. The trigger reset is the same though.

Overall, the kit is worth every penny.
