ammo situation worsening.... and worsening..... and worsening ....... May 5, updated

Just got back from the gun shop and bought some .22LR was only going to buy a couple of bricks but they told me to buy a case of 10. They have lots however was told it is selling very quickly and there is now a real problem getting more as their wholesalers are out. The price was good and very little more than I paid a few months ago.

Powder limited to one pound per visit and very limited supply, again unable to get more at this time.

Primers now limited to 1,000 and also unable to obtain more at this time. You can't leave and come back a hour later for more primers or powder.

Told me .22 is going to be hard to get, they paid more for their latest purchase so prices are up.

Also mentioned the US manufacturers are not filling Canadian orders at this time, wouldn't venture a guess when they will.

IF you plan on doing a lot of shooting this summer it might be wise to buy what you need now providing you can find a price you like.
 
I look at it like its not that big of a deal. Maybe it is that big of a deal that we are struggling to find good ammo prices...

But at the end of the day ammo will always be produced and people will always shoot it. Panic buying and hoarding is a good way to ensure a good price at that time for a lot of ammo. But people who wait and don't hoard are not losing out either. It's the same thing.

Buy now And save money.

Or wait until the prices are lower, and buy smaller then.

People's priorities are different also. So it's hard to dedicate so much cash to mass bulk buying if you just don't have access to it. I wold love t bulk buy. But I just can't afford it. So I'll wait until the prices come down and grab some small amounts.

What is going to happen, when in a year or less from now when the big scare in the states is over and everyone and their gun totin dog has ammo coming out of the wazzo? The bullet makers are all tuned up to make copious amounts of ammo and we are shooting the hoarded stuff for months or even years!! Not only that, all these folks in the U.S. that never wanted a gun but went out and bought an ar-15 or whatever was left on the shelf at their local outdoorworld, realize they still don't want a gun or the sh!t load of ammo they bought with it! I think there will be deals to be had next year,, keep your powder dry (money) folks!
 
Just got back from Cabela's again. Wow - shoulder to shoulder busy in that place.

Things are looking dire. Their end cap with the 50-100rd count boxes is pretty slim pickin's. What extra Federal and 333 they had received this week is wiped out. No more bulk CCI. Their wildcats are at aprx 1/4 what they were a month ago.

I would estimate that they are now down from 1/2 of their regular level to 1/4 and they certainly can't maintain even that with the little shipments they're getting in.

I would have taken a picture but there were too many people...

I think Cabela's may run out soon than I had estimated.

Further, the Walmart directly next door had 1 ammo cabinet completely empty. Not a single box of ammo in it. The other one was maybe 10% full if that. They were both fully stocked last week...

Since I have noticed that even Cabela's is receiving zero of certain types of rimfire, I'd say that their supply in channel is dry.

I'm a big time believer in this.. Does a non competition shooter really have a use for 20k 223 rounds ... Probably not... Or 50 pmags, or 10 10/22s, glocks or ARs ... No .. So what's he going to do when he figures out. That Obama can't get his guns.. Not sell 20k worth of stockpile, or let the bank foreclose his house.

Hoarding surplus is coming boys just wait for it and say no to gouging prices
 
Looking forward to all the hoarding surplus sales come next year. Mfr will be cranking them out, Yankees will realized Obama's threaten ban was really a well planned firearm stimulus package; lot of stock, no buyers, fire sale.

Let the surplus flow :)

I for one know I'm going to hoard like a mofo when things calm down a little more.
 
At the gunshow yesterday I came away from it with 1,500 rds of brass in various calibers. Next went over to Wholesale and took my number! No problem with primers, came home with 5,000 but the more popular powders were sold out. The wife found 4 flats of her favorite 12 gauge ammo so we picked up 2 of them. A good day in all, but no shortage yet, at least for those of us who reload.

Local market working off the last few years of stock and just now is the ammo season beginning. Check back in two weeks and things will be totally different.
 
I haven't been hoarding during this drought, I hoarded long before it started. Now I have enough ammo that the current hoarders will run out of money long before I run out of ammo. Then when the supply comes back, I will replenish my stock.

So what you're saying is you don't see yourself buying $50 bulk packs anytime soon?;)
 
I went to a local store yesterday on the way to the range for a couple boxes of 12 ga to try out my latest toy and walked out with a case of 9mm and 15 boxes of buckshot
 
So, now in the U.S. some states are calling for magazine registrations and certificates to buy ammo. This may just ramp up the second round of panic buying, and really worsen the current situation. Folks its going to get much worse before it gets better.

I found 4 bricks of .22 for $25 by end of day Friday at the Gun Show. I walked the whole show and that was all I could find. Maybe vendors replenished on Saturday - I wasn't there.

I was shooting at TSE Friday morning, and they had a mountain of bricks of I think Winchester Wildcats and it was completely sold out by 11 am. I talked to Heather at TSE (one of the managers at TSE), and she said to me something along the lines of "You'd better get your .22 ammo now, because once this is gone that's it for the year."

Oddly enough, I noticed BDX was selling 300 packs of 9mm at the show for $70-$75 and he was sold out by lunch on Saturday (called a friend at the show to pick up some boxes for another friend - got the last box of bronze, and 2 of the last boxes of gold). I remember this time last year buying the same packs for $65-$68. Not a big price increase, but still an appreciable one.

I don't know why, but yesterday I felt inclined to stop by Canadian Tire near my house on my way home from work. They had 3 bricks of Federal Champions for $25.99, and I grabbed them all. The girl (sales associated, again) said her manager said she had put them out maybe 2 minutes before I got there and they had an order in and they probably should get another order in within 2 weeks. Guess I was lucky, and we'll see 2 weeks from now what they got.

Either way, that last purchase puts me in good shape for my youth program I think - and I'm out (as in done) proactively hunting for ammo. If I'm at Walmart or CT for whatever reason and I see some available for a decent price, I might pick up some more - if not, I'm with the "wait it out, don't chase the price up" crowd now.

I was down at the Cabelas in Tulalip, Wa today. The sales person said the only reason that their was any .22lr left by 2 in the afternoon was because they stated limiting the purchase quanities.

This is where it will start getting interesting! The run up to this, got some income for the shops, but now if they have little or no ammo to sell, who will buy their guns? No guns, no accessories, etc. It is going to be hard on our gun shops, I hope they can get ammo from E urope or somewhere else or it will be a tight year for them! CTC and WALLYWORLD don't really care, it is a small part of their buisiness but those fellas at the top of this page may have some lean months or years coming up, I hope they saved some of the cash they made on this run up!
Was out and in Walmart, most in our area are preparing to renovate/ get bigger. so it is hard to tell what is normal with .22 the mumford road wally (west end mall) had 2 fed value packs for $24.99 I bought them mostly cause I haven't tried them in my ruger. there are at least 6 cartons of win 333 packs for $14. and a good bit of 50 packs, looks about normal for w.m. !
