I'd take a good AK over a Vz58.
Well you can't, so stop dreaming and get used to it.

Ill possibly take the type 81 from tactical import over a wasr10. Hopes up!!

the wasr10 is hit and miss
i dream of the day my house is filled with ak's you never know with enough pushing we could get it done with a attitude like the one you have nothing will change and it will only get worse
If we could have ak's id go for a saiga. Depending on wich way you look at it well have type 81's hopefully and no ak's while the states will have aks but no type 81's. not that its good this way but it makes me feel a bit better when i hear a neighbor down south woeing for our cheap china guns
Prior to Sandy Hook, there was talk about doing away with the bulk of the prohibited classification category as a cost saving measure. The result would be lumping all semi-auto firearms on that list into the restricted category, with full autos remaining unobtainium. Of course, that talk faded away pretty quick after Sandy Hook. That said, the recomendation was given to Harper and is still out there; it has yet to be withdrawn by the government's firearms advisory committee.
However, the firearms advisory committee was given a shake up a couple months back, so we'll see if the new one comes out with the same recomendations.
How many of these threads exist?
I would love to see an AK one day, let alone own one. It will remain a dream......for now! I'm glad to see this subject coming up here and there. It means we haven't given up.
As a former AK owner, shooter and guy who carried one in the bush legally - all I can say is "Meh, VZ's a better rifle"
The AK series are of significant historical interest. As such they have major collector appeal. That has been squelched in this country.
Most of the current appeal of the AK is that it is forbidden fruit.
As a firearm, they are what they are. I used to carry a folding stocked CA AKM in the box under the seat of my snowmobile. Good "if you ever need a rifle its there" gun.
Compared to a lot of other rifles, they leave quite a bit to be desired, from the standpoint of accuracy, ergonomics.
Ergonomics on the Kalashnikovs are actually good. Some can be quite accurate. As far as automatic capability goes, if our civilian police can have it then so should other civilians. The rifles function well even when treated badly. They would be good for our Canadian Rangers.
