a guide to purchasing first handgun? aka suggestions, for a newbie

I thought about a revolver. Its mechanically simple, probably not prone to alot of malfunctions.
The biggest advantage might be not picking up brass... Peticularly in winter.

On the plus side; my application has finally been approved, and I'm waiting for it to arrive.
I'll do some comparison at the shop and maybe get a deposit down soon.

I'll post when I find something I like. If possible I'd like to get a .22lr and 9mm back to back.. But some
of the 9mm I liked are backordered....

everyone has their own opinions what the best gun is. but the truth is, the best gun is what fits your hand and shooting style best.

my advice is to buy a quality gun and not the cheap stuff. you will want something that is reliable and shoots perfectly out of the box.

22 is cheap to shoot but not fun to shoot. I personally like a little muzzle flip and recoil. Best to start with a 9mm since most shooters upgrade to larger calibers when they gain more experience. Plus 9mm's are quite cheap to shoot

:nest:Handguns have levels of recoil, the high volume .22LR has almost no RECOIL the next to high volume ammo is the 9mm which has recoil but is its not going to hurt you. .357 mag .44 mag .500 S&W harsh and abusive....time to start reloading.
.45 Colt .45 ACP this is where you want to wind up....you still have to reload but don't use so much powder.

Fun is relative :) Sometimes I have fun knowing I put 500 rounds down range and spend as much as 50 rounds of 9mm. Also, I try to do fun things like draw a heart or a flower with 22's for the wife. :D Usually, they just look like fluffy clouds.

hahahaha... at least she knows you try. spoken like a true romantic. i need to bring the wife to the range with me and try that myself. maybe she be ok with me buying more guns.

my wife shoots much better than me. I might suggest she starts drawing me hearts and such. :)
For pistols she shoots a sig 220 elite dark .45ACP and a p226 Tac Ops 9mm.

I've kind of mentioned it on an earlier post. I think a .22 can have some value, it can help your form or get you "warmed up".
But It definitely wouldn't be the only pistol i took. The range is not too far away, but when I went I'd plan
on shooting a few guns and making it part of an afternoon.

What have you decided on???

Side note, took wifey to the range and she fired the 22 then 9 then 45 and now refuses to fire anything but the 45

I had opposite experience with my wife this past weekend.
Took her to range to shoot 9 and 22 and now she won't shoot anything bigger than 22.

Oh well, that's just more 9mm for me! :p

My mistake she was with me when I dropped 2 G on ammo so she knows im not hurting for ammo.

My shortlist: Glock 17 g4, Sig Sauer p226, CZ75/SP-01. I need to see how they feel (grip, size, weight)...

IF I can afford another one in the next month or so, I'd like to get a .22lr; browning camper or ruger mark 3.

I bought the Colt 1911 22 GOLD CUP TROPHY and I love it

I'd considered the gsg1911/.22lr and the sig 1911/.22lr, but I can get the same grip on a ruger 22/45.. and for a bit less $.
I might also have issues getting parts like magazines locally for colt. Let me check on my "shopping trip", so I don't end up
making a liar out of myself.
