I acquired a Stevens 77E that I don't have a whole lot of use for as it sits. It has a 30 inch barrel and fixed full choke. The gun is solid but clear sign of use; bluing rubbing off, peeling on the stock, some dents in the wood. Nothing major, just a shotgun that has had a lot of use and carry. I've toyed with the idea of cutting down the barrel and possibly changing the stock if possible, or doing a restoration on it. Reblue the metal, strip and refinish the stock...

Any other thoughts or ideas as to what I could do with this?

You have a decent pump gun. It is an early one with walnut furniture. The grain in the stock looks very good. I would re do the wood in oil and cut about 3/4" off of the barrel to take the FULL choke to about light modified.(for steel use) In the end if you decide to sell the gun it will be worth something. I have seen so many of these cut down to road warrior specs and then given away because they are absolutely usless sawn off and tacticcooled. I will be called a fudd because of this but please do not cut this good old gun into a piece of junk.

I would just redo to the stock and keep it as is.

This is more what I am leaning towards. The gun was given to me from a member at the camp that I have known for about 25 years and that is what makes me hesitant in cutting it. However, if I were to decide to shorten the barrel some, enough to at least open up the choke, what would be the best way to cut it?

I have basically the same shotgun except with a poly choke. I really like it. It is my first pump gun and it shoots slick. Keep it as a good old grouse gun. Clean it up and use it, that's what they were made for.
