bc transfer time

This is hard to beleive but I emailed them yesterday and quoted my two reference numbers, one is two weeks old and the other is three weeks old. I asked them if they could take care of them for me. Low and behold first thing this morning they emailed me back and they had done them. I thanked them very much. So I guess the squeaky wheel does get the grease.

What email address did you use?
I asked the woman last week if I could at least get a notification via email when it was complete instead of calling in repeatedly but she suggested that would only cause more delays.....

From all the stories of approvals over the phone ranging from 1-5 minutes obviously it doesn't take long to do an approval. Wanna bet if this was private firm with staff on commission, paid by the approvals completed, the entire process would be done when the buyer/seller calls in the request.

Only in a union/gov't outfit is this kind of abuse accepted; never in a private call center.

A few days was the norm for years before the recent trend to insanity.

I just got off the phone with the CFC, nice lady there told me my transfer from March the 15th wasn't likely to happen for at least two more weeks!! I am currently on hold with the BC CFO's office, and have been for 30 minutes...

I bought one from a dealer on Thursday Feb 07, about 2pm. Got a phone call first thing Feb 12, to come and pick it up - the paper work had come through Monday. And the shop is closed on Mondays.

Did a private trade a week later with a guy in Alberta, and it's 11 days and counting since the transfer was started - CFC said it would likely be three weeks.

Update on the private transfer;
- Transfer was started Feb 22
- Called a week later (Mar1?) - after 15 minute hold, was told it was at BC CFO
- Called a second time approx a week later. Same story.
- Called Mar 18, on hold 20 minutes to talk to somebody back east, and then another 20 minutes to talk to somebody attached to the BC office. She said she'd e-mail them.....
- Dropped by the office at approx. 10AM today, Mar 28, and had the transfer paper in hand 5 minutes later, dated today! - office staff was very helpful!

4 weeks, 6 days to get the paper in hand, and no wait for Canada post!

Part of a rant to the other party in the trade:
There is NO reason that I should need their approval to buy a handgun - I have the correct license..(and four others, not that that should make a difference)
All that should have to happen is 1) you call and say you are selling XYZ to me. Is my license current? 2) I confirm that I'm buying XYZ.. They send the new registration.. period - fullstop.. end of story..

My transfer was initiated Feb 27 and finally completed yesterday Mar 27. I called once a week for first 2 weeks then every 2-3 days since but there response was always the same: "I can see everything is in order it's just waiting for approval, try again next week". This is of course fter being on hold for 10-20 minutes each time. Not sure what they are doing (solitaire?) that causes this massive "backlog" of processing, but it seems pretty obvious from reading these other replies here that its totally possible for the agent to just push enter on her computer and the transfer is completed. Doesn't make sense to me. Good luck to those of you still waiting, I think I'll send out an email complaint as well just to make this better for my future transfers!

What information do I need to check the status of my transfer? I didn't get anything from the gun store. Can I just call the CFO office in BC?

I think if I can't get it approved after calling, I will send in a complaint with the ombudsman to see if anything happens.

You can call the CFO and give them your PAL number, they should be able to see on that you have a transfer pending and tell you the status of it. That's what I did when I call to inquiry about my transfer today.

Shock and Awe, 2 business days for personal revolver transfer from ON to BC.

Mar 25, Seller in ON call in I called in from BC ~9:30am.
Mar 27, Notice is dated
Apr 2, 4 business days from request, get letter in mail.

2 bus days to approve, 2 more to get in mail. Keep it up, not instant but NO complaints at all.

Bought one today and called in to complete the transfer and I was warned that our BC office is 4-6 weeks behind scedule on transfers of restricted arms.
On a side note, I was also reading an article today put out by the NFA and the requirement of a buyer to belong to a shooting club is B.S. which is being asked by the CFO only and is not a legal requirement of purchasing a restricted firearm unless you declare that you're buying it to go shooting. They even went so far as to say that if the CFO sticks with their guns we as buyers should be demanding to see a written copy of the laws which state the requirement and then if they still stick to it we can take them to Provincial court to force them to prove themselves. Very tempting but not a battle I'm interested in taking right now. I can't see making many friends at the CFO office, lol.

I applied for my transfer on March 21 and it was issued on March 23. When I went into Wanstalls to pick it up they mentioned that several other people had experienced 1-2 day transfers recently. CFO office in BC has new staffers?

Ok, here is the update of my transfer time from a local Vancouver dealer to me. There was a hiccup during the whole process, however, its still only took 7 days total. Whole detail are below.

March 25th - Called BC CFO and asked how to apply for LTATT. She basically just asked my info and told me to fax or email in a copy of shooting range club application or membership and it should be done within couple days. Faxed in my copy of PCDHFC membership application PLUS LTATT application form. Fax number I used is (604) 575-1241. (This may be what caused the hiccup as I called BC CFO earlier regarding ATT application and she told me to fax to 1-888-895-9955 or email to cfpcfounit@rcmp-grc.gc.ca. Being a smart ass, I didnt know where that 1-888 number is to so I think if I fax directly to BC CFO Office's fax number, the process may be faster. It turns out I was wrong, will explain later.)

March 27th - Called BC CFO and trying to confirm they have received my LTATT application via the fax. They can't find it in their system and told me usually it will show up in their system in around 24 hours of the application being faxed. She told me I should call back the next day or maybe after the Easter long weekend. That afternoon I went to a local gun shop to just look around. Found out M&P 9mm range kit I wanted has increased in price so I decided I should buy it before the price got bumped again. So this is the day my transfer started.

April 2nd - I called BC CFO again to see if they've got my LTATT application and also asked how long it will take for my transfer. Surprisingly, the LTATT is still not showing up on their system, however, there is record of transfer application in their system. So I asked how come it takes so long and confirmed with her that the fax number (604) 575-1241 I used is correct. She told me that fax number is WAY back logged and told me I should fax to 1-888-895-9955 or email them. She again told me I dont have to send them a copy of my application, all details are in their system already. All they need is a copy of my membership application. She also said she will prefer I use email as they are trying to cut down on paper work as much as possible. I then asked about the transfer and STATT for the M&P 9mm I bought. She told me once my LTATT is done, the transfer and STATT should be done at the same time. After I hang up, I email them my copy of PCDHFC membership application.

April 3rd - I received the LTATT via email in the morning.

April 4th - Trying to call BC CFO again to inquiry about my transfer in the morning. Waited about 20 minutes and no one answer the phone so I gave up. Just after lunch, lo and behold, the dealer called me and said the transfer is done and STATT is there so I can pick up the gun anytime I like. Went to the store and saw the transfer and STATT was actually done on April 3rd which is the same day I got my LTATT. Looks like BC CFO kept her words.

So total transfer time for me is 7 days. I wonder if I didn't mess up my LTATT application, maybe it will be even faster? No?

So total transfer time for me is 7 days.

7 days is the fastest LTATT I've heard of recently. Mine was about 4 weeks last year. If this is your first LTATT, then this is a significant improvement. Let's hope it isn't an anomaly and things are actually getting better across the board.

The club membership is not a legal requirement even if you do declare that you are buying it to go shooting. The law allows you to shoot as a guest, and so do a large number of ranges. I think a well-organized person who was willing to take the issue to court would win in BC. In theory Cyclone has already won in Ontario with the same challenge, but I don't think he's actually received the ATT yet.

For those who don't want to fight the battle, I think Silvercore has a basic, no-frills membership for $30. That's the cheapest I'm aware of.

Personally, I shoot often enough that I'd be a member of a club regardless of the legal requirements.

Actually, if you only count the days from when they received my copy of a shooting club membership to the day they issued me LTATT, it is 1 business day. (April 2nd to April 3rd)

In Manitoba. STILL waiting for my transfer to go through from BC from March 11 or something. I should probably start calling the CFO.

Got mine approved this morning after asking me to hold for a few minutes. Person to person from ON to BC. Initiated April 2, and approved April 5. This just made my day.
