So...I bought my NIB Bushmaster AR-15A3 patrolmans carbine more than 10 years ago....and have fired Many Thousands of rounds through it....so much, that the bolt actually broke 2 years ago. I replaced it with a factory Bushmaster bolt ordered from Brownells. Now it's brand new again.

BUT....my current problem is that the internal parts have become soooooo worn, that the rifle doubles now..frequently. Believe me...it's not as fun as it might seem. The second shot is a flyer as I'm not suspecting it to fire...and I get weird looks and whispers at the range.

I'm actually scared to take it out lol....and have called my local gunsmith, and they said, bring it down,, have the parts,, and it'll cost about $40.

I know its a relative simple process....pop out those two pins, and replace the lower parts in receiver with New factory Bushmaster lower parts.

My question.....what is the culprit??? ....has the sear, or disconnector became so worn, that it doesn't disengage, and let's another round pop off before catching?

I love my Bushmaster lol :) ....bought NIB over ten years...and still in Flawless condition, beautiful healthy finish, well oiled and maintained ....you would look at it, and think it's a year old...absolutely mint. I'll NEVER sell my A3 16" H BAR ......must be fixed back to perfect working order.

Has anyone ever had an AR go burst on you? Or even double more than once?

You can replace the parts pretty easily yourself, so all that it costs to you, is the cost of parts.

Check out the Brownells "how-to" section for videos on building an AR, and ofcourse there's youtube too

99% that its the worn disconnector or worn disc. spring.
At minimum, change the disconnector and disconnector spring.

Or just throw in a new trigger and hammer [fire control group], complete.

Trigger upgrade? I love the trigger on my Bushy M4 ...perfect 2-stage crisp release, no problems what so ever. Why you suggest trigger upgrade?

Maybe I should just order the parts, and swap them out myself. Save myself the hasstle, and having someone put their greasy hands all over my baby, given back all molested and scratched up...f@Ck, I'd be devastated.

Maybe I'll just swap out with new disconnector and disc. Spring, and see how that works. Is it easy to pop out the two pins on receiver...kinda like taking out trigger group on Remington 870 ??? ...or is it much more firmly in place....need a nice brass punch and rubber hammer ???

Perhaps some YouTube videos will help...

You have not lived if you have not yet tried a high quality match trigger in your AR, changes the whole feel of the gun.

It is like buying a Ford Mustang with a small V-6 engine, it gets the job done, but the second the full 5.0 Liter V-8 Engine goes into the car, it all starts to make sense.

Lmao ;) Niiiiice comparison ....the V8 5.0 ah....Hmmm. I do remove the A3 carrying handle, and mount a scope on the flattop for 200 yard target shooting....maybe a Match trigger wouldn't be all that bad?

What kind of match trigger would be best? I don't want some 1.5 lbs sniper trigger...my AR ain't no 20" full-size varmint rig...it's an M4 Carbine type AR.

I had no reason to upgrade the trigger in my armalite until I read this..

your post does not makes sence.
you say you put many thousands of rounds in the gun, to the point that the bolt broke, now you trigger group is doubling...
But you say its well cared for and maintained???
need to change out the worn out parts.
look at doing a complet trigger , hammer discon change as well as look at the buffer, gas tube and gas rings.
guns are like cars if you change parts before they brake, the dont brake major parts or Kaboom.
bbb

Gas ring is a new McFarrlin 1 piece gas ring...all springs are Wollf xtra power extractor spring, have a hydraulic buffer, national match front sight, etc.

Badboybeeson, I take VERY good care of my Bushy. Bolt broke due to lots of usage...bought a factory replacement....lower parts getting worn out....getting a factory replacement lol :p

Thanks for coming out though ;)

LOL but of course ")

Just say YouTube video on installing AR15 lower parts ....easy as sh*t. I'm gonna do it myself. I might buy a Bushmaster Match trigger of Brownells for $100 ...two stage match trigger. I'm excited to get my lower parts kit, so I can install this crap, and take my baby back to the range and let it rip lol ;)

THE number one cause of an AR "doubling" is it will shoot upon release of the trigger, after firing the first round.

THE number cause for that is; the wear between the disconnector and the hammer hook, (for the disconnector). It just happens over time and is no indication of abuse or failure to maintain a rifle. Simply wear of parts. It happens.

There are a couple of methods for a quick repair, but as mentioned the best way to repair it is simply to replace the hammer and disconnector.

I also have to echo what others have said and agree that a good trigger makes a world of difference if one is concerned for finer accuracy. It can be a bit of a sticker shock, but will be the single best improvement or additional accessory one can buy, for target/group work.

I was looking at different AR triggers on Brownells...there's like 3 or 4 that caught my eye. In the $100-$200 range....although my problem with my AR doubling is most likely a $3.00 disconnector spring lol....but I might get a Match 2 stage trigger.

CMMG has a drop in, match trigger for $125.00 USD
Geissele has a match trigger for around $240.00 USD
Bushmaster 2stage Match trigger for $180.00 USD

I'm still thinking.
