Marlin 795 is having trouble chambering a round from the mag 15% of the time.

Well now you can chuck the Remlin in and buy another 10/22 :) but seriously did you look at the mag? Does the follower hang up occasionally? Was it seated and locked in properly?

A while back I sold my Ruger 10/22 and had I not done that I should have taken it down to the lake and chucked it in.lol

The magazine is fine ; spring is tight and the cartridges are all the way to the top. I am wondering if there is a problem with the way the bolt sits and moves along it's path. It is a simple design so I can't see why this is happening.
10/22 is a fine rifle. The feel of it was just not for me; too fat and blocky the way some fellows prefer the CZ 75 over the G-17

Have you cleaned the gun yet? Plenty of online YouTube tutorials on how to do disassemble it carefully. My 795 runs like a top, but open-up the gun and have a look. A few things to look for;

1. Inside, top of the receiver is painted black, and LIKE the beloved 10/22s...this paint is likely to flake-off with time. I scraped-off what looked loose..then used a scotchbright pad to smooth-out the rest.
2. Look for any scoring/scratching on the inside of the receiver and if any is present, examine your bolt and charging handle and see what's causing it.
3. Inspect the recoil spring and recoil spring guide (rod) and make sure nothing is hanging-up. Make sure when reassembling that the rod seats properly in the little detent in the receiver. The spring should be straight/no kinks and the guide rod straight and very smooth.

In other words...it sounds to me like your bolt isn't reliably/easily traveling back and forth as the gun cycles. I'm assuming you're 100% sure it isn't the magazine (you've tried others?) or weak/inconsistent ammo. A 795 should function with standard velocity ammo, but real garbage/inconsistent ammo could be the cause.

The ammo was not the best I was told as it was new production that the factories are hurriedly churning out to meet the demand perhaps.
I will inspect the rifle now. Thanks for the advice.

EDIT:

Upon inspection of the above areas mentioned by .22LRGUY there were no abnormalities seen. Now when I find the magazine I'll compare it to other ones to see if there is a reason for it to cause feeding issues. Perhaps it is sitting too low in the magazine well?

Interesting. How hard is it to remove the magazine from the mag well? There is a small chance it's not seating all the way in, and I did read of an easy mod to make that go smoother. The description is on rimfire central, but the symptom is scratches on the top of the mag where these small tabs in the gun's action rub against it. I smoothed mine out with a tiny file and some fine sandpaper, mags drop out way easier. Try a new mag, some good ammo, and report back! :)
