So I just picked up a new to me Russian, laminated stock, SKS. The last owner gave me a great deal on it because he fired it once and had used corrosive ammo and put it away without cleaning it. The next time he looked at it it had quite a bit of rust. So I picked it up for $50!.
After some scrubbing and boiling water, the barrel comes out shiny and spotless. No pits, no marks, no evidence of rust. The little bit around the muzzle and in the chamber came off with some G96 and a couple patches. The last bit on the bolt took some WD-40 and steel wool, but came out without leaving any pitting only a slight stain on the metal. The gun looked fantastic when I was done.
So today came the test. Took the gun out with some Hornady Zombie Max ammo (before anyone starts, it was the cheapest non FMJ ammo at the shop
) and was able to get about 3 inches at 50 yards. I was pretty happy with that all things considered. Not bad for $50!
So my question is, how much of a difference would tec sights make? Should I be happy with my new toy as is and leave it alone, or would the tech sights improve the groupings enough to make it worthwhile?
